Hanover Street School Newsletter
November 19, 2023
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. This is not only because I love to cook, eat, and spend time relaxing with my family and friends, but because the holiday is a reminder to slow down and take a few minutes to reflect on all of the things that we are grateful for.
So in the spirit of thanksgiving, I wanted to thank you all for welcoming me to this new community. I am grateful to be working with this dedicated staff and our wonderful students every day. I appreciate how generous you are with your time and resources. The overwhelming attendance at Kindergarten Orientation, Open House and School Sings is heartwarming. You all have spent countless hours volunteering in so many ways from being surprise readers in class, leading Four Winds lessons, helping with drama club and coaching, baking goodies and supplying us with all kinds of delicious snacks.
I feel fortunate to be at Hanover Street School working with your children,
Leah Wheelan, Principal

HSS Drama Club - Frozen
Please join me in thanking Heather Baker, Saige Grainger, Cathy Beasley, and all of the numerous adult volunteers, and students for the extraordinary effort that went into this show.
Dec. 7th - Early Dismissal at 12:30
Please note that this is a different dismissal time than last year.
Report Cards
Our first trimester will end on December 1st and we will be reporting on our students' progress using a new report card. You should be able to view your child's report card in Alma on December 6th so please make sure that you have access to Alma. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held that week and will provide you with an opportunity to discuss your child's progress with their teacher.
Drive Slowly at Drop Off
Please be extra careful during drop off and drive very slowly. There are a lot of children, adults, dogs, bikes, cars, and occasional construction vehicles.

Vision Screening
The Lion’s Club came to HSS on November 9 to help us complete vision screenings on over 300 students. This was a non - invasive technique that helped identify children who may need further vision evaluation. Twenty - four students were recommended to complete further evaluation. If your child needed additional evaluation, you should have received a note from me this week. The Lion’s Club also provides financial assistance for vision appointments and eyeglasses, so please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns. We are so grateful for the help and time from the Lebanon Lion’s Club!
When do I take my child to the eye doctor and how often?
Experts recommend that children get a professional eye exam as early as 1 years of age. Another eye exam should happen before your child enters kindergarten. Seeing a professional eye doctor early on can prevent more serious issues later on in a child’s life. Please visit the link below for more details:

Tis the Season for Sore Throats
I am seeing a lot of sore throats. There are many causes for sore throats, and the recommended treatment will vary. It is always best to check in with your child’s medical provider. Please refer to the article from National Institute of Health for some more information:
