Dear Eagle Families and Staff,

You may have recently heard that Decatur ISD is starting a Bond Planning Committee. I'm following up to extend this invite to our families and staff who wish to serve — and to outline what is at stake for our students' future.

When I started a few months ago as Decatur ISD's new superintendent, I was not naive to the challenges. However, I choose to serve here because I believe in this community. Over the past 7 months, some of these needs have become clear thanks to important conversations my staff and I have had internally and externally. Now, as we look to the future, it is important that we hear from a greater variety of voices to thoroughly assess these needs and to create a community-based consensus for how we move forward to best support our students.

To thoughtfully plan for these needs, Decatur ISD is forming a Bond Planning Committee made up of families, staff, business leaders, and community members -- and we're inviting you to serve. This committee will study district facility needs and ultimately develop a recommendation for the Decatur ISD Board of Trustees regarding if and when to call for a new bond election.

If you are interested in serving, please contact Laura Walther or Laura.Walther@decaturisd.us or 940-393-7103 by Friday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m.

Responsibilities of Committee Members Responsibilities of Committee Members

Obtaining different perspectives from the entire community is very important to the process.

Members of the committee will study background information, potential solutions and associated costs, financial data, and the results of a community-wide survey to make the best recommendation. Members are encouraged to attend all meetings. Each meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately 1.5 hours.
