Main Office Security Update
We are excited to share some positive news regarding an enhancement to our school's security measures. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students and staff, we have successfully installed a new remote video intercom system in our school vestibule.
This upgrade provides an extra layer of security during school hours. The door to our main office will be locked. Visitors will now use a simple process to request entry allowing our office staff to unlock the door from their desks. This is a recommended school security measure that is used by most neighboring school districts, and we are excited to have it in place.
Families are an essential part of Hawks View, and we remain committed to connecting with you in person at school. You are always welcome here. Please know that this new system still allows us to welcome the families, volunteers, and visitors that make this a joyful community of learners.
We’ve been practicing with our system, and we are diligently working to get comfortable with it. We anticipate a smooth transition and appreciate your understanding and patience as we all get used to this positive change.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe and wonderful place for our children to learn and grow.
Grade 1-5 Placement Emails
We know there’s a lot of excitement and nerves this time of year as students’ await their class placement! We are working diligently as we enroll new students, withdraw former students and try to maintain balanced classes. Teachers spent hours in June working on placement and that has continued into the summer. Class placement is never an easy process and there are an incredible amount of factors we consider.
Please let your child know they can expect an email from their “new” teacher on Friday afternoon, between 3:00-3:30. If you do not receive an email by 3:45, please check your Junk/Spam folders.
Meet & Greet, Grades 1-5
Hawks View is excited to welcome our students and families anytime between 4-6pm on Monday, August 25th. If students have their supplies, they may bring them this evening, but it is certainly not a requirement. It’s an opportunity to meet this year’s teacher and see friends again! Please enter the building through the front entrance.
If you have medications you would like to drop off, the office will be open during Meet & Greet for your convenience.
Additionally, for students going to Champions, our Champions classrooms will be open from 4-6pm. We encourage you to stop by, meet the staff and get acquainted with the space!
Kindergarten Orientation Information
The beginning of the school year looks a bit different for Kindergarten students as we welcome our newest students. First, you and your incoming Kindergarten student(s) are invited to a 90-minute Kindergarten Orientation session on August 26th. This will be a time for students and their parents/caregivers to meet staff, tour the school, learn about key rules and procedures, and drop off school supplies. You can find kinder information here.
Transportation Information
Please visit the Transportation website to find information on bus routes, snow routes and policies. Download the ParentApp (My Ride K-12) for specific route information. If you have questions, please call our Transportation Department at 503-825-5900.
Nutrition Services
This school year, all students attending Hawks View Elementary will automatically receive meals at no cost. For more information about the CEP Program, please please visit our website.
Cell Phone/Smart Watch Expectations
Please review our updated Cell Phone/Smart Watch expectations here. These are in line with our middle and high school cell phone policies and Oregon’s Executive Order 25-09; prohibiting cell phone use during the school day.
Supply List for 2025-2026
You will find the supply list for the 2025-2026 school year below. It will also be posted on the Hawks View Elementary website for your convenience. If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact our counselor, Mrs. Allred, at sallred@sherwood.k12.or.us.
The SHARE Center also has clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies for all ages and sizes. Appointments are required; to schedule your appointment, please contact Katie Bouska at kbouska@sherwood.k12.or.us or 503-825-5087.
Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Process
Our arrival and dismissal procedures are located here. Please review them prior to the first day of school. This will help us keep traffic moving smoothly and allow us to get kids into the building safely and on time. A few important things to note that will help our traffic flow:
Cars will enter and exit through the District Office driveway. We close off the HV driveway to avoid traffic moving in a variety of directions and causing a back up in our parking lot and on Sherwood Blvd.
As a reminder, please do not get out of your vehicle in the car line. If you need to get out for any reason, we ask that you pull into a nearby parking spot and unload that way.
For pick-up, kids will receive signs that go in the passenger side window for pick up. The sign indicates student name & teacher name. This will help our staff quickly identify the child and bring them to the car.
Our car line for K-3 (with the exception of 3rd grade DLI) runs along the side of the building (see slides above). We ask that the front car pulls as far forward as possible, near the Activities Entrance. We will not be loading from behind the cross walk in our parking lot. We’ll load in the area between the crosswalk and the Activities Entrance. We ask that you also unload (for morning drop off) in this area only. This is to ensure student safety and to allow our car line to move efficiently. Thank you!
Attendance
Expectations
Regular attendance is expected of all students. For detailed expectations, please see the Sherwood Student Body Handbook, page 7, for complete information. School hours are 7:55am - 2:15pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with release at 1:15 on Wednesdays, beginning September 3.
Absence Notification
Parents who keep their children at home on a school day should call the office between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. If we do not hear from a parent by 9:00 am, the absence reporting system will contact the parent. Please call our 24 hour student absence line at 503-825-5410. With parents’ cooperation, we can assure each child’s security.
When reporting a student absence on the attendance line, please include the following information: Student name, parent/guardian name, student’s teacher, date of absence, reason for absence and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached.
Tardies
The school day starts at 7:55 am. Late arrivals will need to check into the office and receive a tardy slip before heading to class. Being on-time allows students to connect with peers, get their materials organized and start the day with their teacher and class. Our school team will monitor and address attendance throughout the year and communicate with families.
Student Medications
If your child needs medication at school (EpiPen’s, Inhalers, etc.) you may check them in during office hours (7:30-3:30)beginning August 18th, to avoid the first morning rush. The office will be open for medication check in during the Meet & Greet on Monday August 25th as well, for your convenience. Forms will be available in the office if needed, or you can find them online here.
If your child needs to take medication during school hours, we would like to remind you of some important safety policies:
♦ Parents must bring medication (Prescription or OTC) to and from school. Students are not allowed to transport medication of any kind.
♦ Medication must be in the original container.
♦ Your child’s name must be affixed to the original container.
♦ Prescriptions must have appropriate pharmacy labeling.
♦ Medications must not be expired.
♦ Appropriate medication authorization forms (see below) MUST be filled out and submitted to the school office before any medication can be administered.
Note: It is the parent's responsibility to ensure that an adequate amount of medication is on hand and to inform the school in writing of any changes in medication instructions. In the event a student refuses medication; the parent will be notified immediately. No attempt will be made to administer medication to a student who refuses district-administered medication. School health forms, including medication authorization forms, can be found on our district website: www.sherwood.k12.or.us under “Health Services” and “Forms.”
“Authorization for Medication Administration by School Staff” must be submitted for any medication use during school hours.
All forms must be filled out and signed by appropriate staff before medication can be given.
