Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
March 20, 2026
Lutherville Families,
It's been an awesome week at Lutherville Lab! Spring Family Night was a joy and I am so grateful to our staff for valuing our community and being together in such a way that they made such an amazing night happen. From performances, to art-making, calm-making, writing, reading, climbing, game-playing, measuring, singing, and eco-brick construction -- it was another wonderful night to be a Leopard!
Thursday, our 4th graders took their traditional field trip to Camp Puh'Tok, which is an immersive experience in Native American history and culture and interaction with the natural world. Spring Field trip season is upon us, and this is another reminder to families complete the Volunteer Application (this must be done every school year) to ensure you are eligible to be a chaperone when the time comes.
On Friday we welcomed our next wave of Kindergarten Leopards at Round-Up! Thanks to Ms. McDevitt for organizing another welcoming event. We are so excited for our future Leopards!
This Sunday afternoon is our Entrepreneur Fair! If you missed it, PTA President Danielle Quinn and some of our young Leopards appeared on WBAL last weekend to share more on the initiative. Thanks to parent Gina Richmond for helping to give our students this opportunity and promoting the event.
Reminder that next week is Class Picture Day (3/25) and Spring Spirit Week! See more below.
Have a great weekend, Leopard families!
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

More Incredible LL Art!
Congratulations to Kallie VW and Maris D. for the selection of their artwork for display at the Baltimore Museum of Art's "Art is for Everyone" celebration next week. Their art will be on display during BMA hours and admission to the collection is free. Additional congratulations to Maris, whose piece was selected as the focal artwork for the advertisement of the event, distributed across the school system and the area. We are so proud of Maris and Callie and the incredible creativity and imagination of all our Leopards, whose work beautifies and brings joy to our school all year round. Shout out to Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Hopkins for bringing the best out of our young artists.

4th Graders Field Trip to Puh'Tok
On Thursday, our 4th graders enjoyed a Field Trip to Camp Puh'Tok. Puh'Tok's Native American & Natural Resources Field Trip offers students a meaningful, hands-on way to explore history, culture, and the natural world. Through immersive activities, students learn about dwellings, tools, storytelling and fire keeping, pigment and communication, and traditional games — all while engaging with the values of community, respect, and connection to the land. Thank you to our teachers for planning and organizing the trip and to parent chaperones for helping the trip be a success!

Some of our Hop for Hopkins raffle winners spread their wings and dove into the world of birds! First, they learned about what birds need to survive—food, water, shelter, and safe places to rest. Using recycled materials, students designed and built their very own bird feeders. We can’t wait to see which birds stop by for a snack!
BCPS School System Updates
Fiscal Year 2027 Operating Budget
- On February 24, the Board of Education voted to approve an amended $2.495 billion Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget request. The Board’s request will now be sent to County Executive Klausmeier and the County Council for consideration and approval.
- We will keep our community informed as we move through this process with our county leaders. The county executive has expressed her desire to provide additional resources to the system despite fiscal challenges at the state and local levels. We are grateful for her ongoing partnership and commitment to working with us to find the best possible solution that will ensure maximum funding for our school system.
- BCPS families, staff, and stakeholders are encouraged to stay engaged in the budget process and to utilize BCPS’ official budget information sources, including Budget 101 and the Operating Budget website for the most accurate and up-to-date information. The County Executive has three upcoming budget forums scheduled where you can provide input and advocate for BCPS. More information about the town hall meetings is available on the Baltimore County government website.
Maryland State Department of Education Presentation
- On February 24, Dr. Rogers provided highlights of the system’s work to fast forward student achievement at the Maryland State Board of Education meeting.
- During her presentation, Dr. Rogers spoke about the investments the system has made in key priority areas that have led to two consecutive years of gains on multiple measures of performance. Dr. Rogers focused on system efforts on literacy and professional development.
- Dr. Rogers also spoke about concerning trends that BCPS, and other school systems in the state, are seeing with enrollment, attendance, graduation and dropout rates for multilingual learners. She thanked State Superintendent Dr. Wright and her team for their advocacy and for the support, resources and regular updates they have provided school system. The state has convened a group of superintendents who are actively looking at this issue and collaborating on solutions.
