SENIOR PHOTO AND SR. AD

Reminders that your student needed to have their senior picture and senior quote submitted before the Christmas break. If they have not completed this they need to turn it in ASAP. If they do not have a senior photo we will attempt to use the school provided one. If they do not have a quote they will get the school motto "The higher the climb the better the view".

ASVAB

We are giving the ASVAB on January 24th at 8:30 A.M. The ASVAB measures aptitude and acquired skills which can be used to help predict future academic and occupational success. ASVAB scores thus give students insight into their options and aid them in planning their next step after high school. The military will give the test. However, a student doesn't need to be interested in the military to take the ASVAB. We have 30 spots available. Students can sign up in the counseling department. The test is for 10th-12th graders.

SAT'S

Juniors: If you would like to take the SAT this year, we offer it here at Blackfoot High School in March free of charge to you. Please fill out the google form in the 2025 Graduating class google classroom if you are interested in taking it. Deadline to sign up is January 11th.

SCIENCE ROUNDUP

In Zoology B, Mr. Neff's class recently began the unit on sharks. We'll be studying what

makes sharks unique, from their skeletal structure to their digestive systems. Our study

will culminate in a 2-day dissection lab where we'll dissect a dogfish shark. We'll begin

by looking at their fascinating skin structure, followed by muscle groups, and continuing

to look at the organ systems in the body cavity. Students are always anxious to see

what their sharks ate for their "last meal"!!!

Mrs. Wood is excited to announce a new science club in addition to the many clubs

offered here at BHS!! Science Club is a way to explore and engage in the world of

science! Hands on experiments and activities based around the interest of our club

members. Meeting in Mrs. Wood"s room 406 on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month

during club time!

Mr. Loomis: Students turned a nursery rhyme into reality on Tuesday, Dec 19th as their

protected "Humpty Dumptyies"; were flung from the roof. Each student waited in

anticipation as Mr. Lance gleefully hurled various egg drop devices into the air. Silence,

then (most of the time) the inevitable crunch. Worried, the students would rush to the

side of their egg, hoping for dear life that the egg survived. Mere moments would

indicate the success or failure of their task. However, after the cheers and tears, there is

always a buzz of excitement to share what their results were. Yet again, another happy

landing. For most at least.

Mr. Pettinger: It is dissection season in Human A&P B. Hands on is always preferred,

when teaching any Biology topic. We go from looking at pictures in a book to actually

holding the organ in our hands. During the nervous system unit, we dissected a sheep

brain. The first dissection always brings out the curiosity and queasy stomachs. Our

second dissection will be a sheep eye. Comparing a sheep eye to a human eye truly

gives students a deeper appreciation for vision. This is my favorite part of Human A&P

and quickly becomes many students favorite too.

Mr. Earley: Physical science students are learning the fundamental principles of the

physical world. In chemistry, students are balancing chemical equations to understand

conservation of matter. Chemistry students have developed custom projects to deepen

their understanding. One student prepared the same flan recipe twice changing the

eggs for egg whites and observed a significant change in the overall texture and stability

of the flan without substantially affecting the taste. In physics, students are learning how

to measure kinetic energy in a 40-yard dash. Physics students investigated momentum

and Newton’s Laws of Motion by designing, building, and testing a contraption that

could protect an egg from a 2-story drop.

BLACKFOOT FFA

In December, Blackfoot FFA took students to Mackay High School where students competed in Extemporaneous speaking, Creed Speaking, Officer Opening ceremonies, Novice Opening Ceremonies, and Ag sales. Our teams all showed up to compete, coming home as the top chapter. Blackfoot FFA is excited to see what the rest of the year brings for these outstanding students!
