Student Career Development Plans 7th-10th grades Student Career Development Plans 7th-10th grades

zoom_out_map

Our 7th, 8th, and 10th grade students have recently taken an exciting step in preparing for their futures! As part of our Career Development Program, students have created accounts with CFNC.org and NCCareers.org—two platforms that support career exploration and planning.

In the coming weeks, students will use these tools to finalize their personalized Career Development Plans (CDPs).

Families are encouraged to stay involved by reviewing the plans with their students. Parents can also explore NCCareers.org without an account, and those who wish to explore further can create a free parent account on CFNC.org. Students may also choose to share their login information to give parents a closer look at their progress.

Together, we can help students take confident steps toward a bright future!

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC)

FAFSA is the First Step to All Financial Aid:The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important step in knowing your options for paying for college. There’s no obligation to accept any aid offered, and it allows you to be considered for federal, state and college-based funding – including scholarships and grants that don’t need to be repaid.

NC Next Scholarship

The Next NC Scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with the state-funded financial aid program to form a simplified and predictable scholarship award that’s easier to understand and makes education more affordable for most North Carolinians. It’s an opportunity to pursue the degree you need for the career you want – and the future you choose.

With the Next NC Scholarship, most students from households with incomes of $80,000 or less will qualify for at least $3,000/year to attend a NC community college that covers all tuition and fees. For students planning to go to a UNC institution, they can get $5,000/year that covers more than half, if not all, tuition and fees. And for students going to a NC private college there is a state Need-Based Scholarship for them, too!

Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor) Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)

A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!

The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.

Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking

For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.

Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.

Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.

PCSVA is located on the 3rd floor of Person High School (1010 Ridge Road). The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. NCSSM Connect Calendar

We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.

Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.

While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
