NOTE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Algonquin Families,

We hope you all had a wonderful summer! On behalf of the Algonquin Middle School Staff, welcome back -- we are so excited to have students back in the building. For those of you who are new to Algonquin, we can't wait to welcome you -- you will LOVE Algonquin! My name is Kristin DeLuca and this is my third year as principal at Algonquin and fifteenth year in the district. My husband and I have three kids, Lia, Olivia and Isabella, and all three attend Chippewa Valley Schools; we love this district and community. I look forward to getting to know you and your students this year and working together to support their needs and encourage success.

This summer went by quickly! My family and I soaked up the sun, took several trips up north, and enjoyed time with family and friends. My family had the pleasure of hosting our family friend from Spain and her 16 year old nephew for a month in our home. It was a great experience for all of us to see our everyday life through someone else's eyes. My kids had the privilege of building relationships and learning some Spanish while embracing a new culture.

Our primary form of communication will continue to be through School Messenger. Be sure your settings are up-to-date in PowerSchool to receive these important messages. You will receive weekly updates and newsletters through School Messenger.

We would like to welcome the following staff to Algonquin Middle School and are grateful to have them join our team!

Mrs. Coleman - Resource Room Teacher

Mrs. Kuron - School Psychologist

Mrs. Riley - ELD Teacher

Ms. Stewart - School Counseling Intern

Mrs. Tardy - School Psychologist

Mrs. Vernick - Coalition Youth Specialist

Ms. Willis - Lunch Monitor

We can’t wait to greet our students bright and early at 8:05 AM on the first day (September 8th). Please remember—it’s a half-day, and dismissal will be at 11:00 AM.

In this newsletter, you will find useful information to help navigate both the start of the school year as well as policies and procedures that will be helpful throughout the year.

Make it a great year EAGLES!

Mrs. Kristin DeLuca

Student Arrival and Dismissal

Students are able to enter the building at 7:30 AM. Students who arrive between 7:30 and 7:55 AM will report directly to the cafeteria. Students who arrive between 7:00AM and 7:30 will wait out side until 7:30. If there is inclement weather, students will be permitted into the main office vestibule.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 until 8:00 AM in the cafeteria. Students who plan to eat breakfast at school must report DIRECTLY to the breakfast line so all students can be served in a timely manner before the bell rings at 8:05AM. Non-Bussers must arrive prior to 7:55 AM in order to receive breakfast at school. Non-bussers who are not in line by 7:55 AM will not be able to receive school breakfast.

Students who arrive prior to 7:55 must report directly to the cafeteria for supervision even if they are not getting breakfast.

Late Arrivals & Early Dismissals

Late Arrival: Students who arrive late may enter the building without a parent/guardian. The student is required to stop in THE OFFICE for a late pass before going to class. We highly encourage all students to be on time for school. If students arrive after 8:35 AM, they are considered absent.

Early dismissal: Only people on the emergency contact list are able to pick up a student for early dismissal. Please come to the office with a driver's license or Michigan ID to verify who you are. Once we verify your identity, we will pull your student from class. Please allow yourself extra time for early dismissal.

Parking Lot Procedures

Please see the map to follow our parking lot procedures. Let's all work together to ensure a smooth drop-off and great start to the day! It is very important students are not dropped off in the drive lane for their safety!

Morning Drop-Off:

  • Please encourage your student to have their belongings ready before entering the parking lot to help keep traffic moving efficiently.
  • If the area highlighted in green is available (see map below), please use it as the designated drop-off lane.
  • If the green area is full, use the passing lane (highlighted in yellow) to proceed through the lot.
  • Park in an available space and have your student use the crosswalk (highlighted in red), where staff or I will assist them in crossing safely.
  • Once your student has exited the vehicle, please exit the parking lot promptly and safely.

Afternoon Pick-Up:

  • If the area highlighted in green is available, you may use it for pick-up.
  • Do not block the bus driveway or the entrance to the parking lot. This area is a designated fire lane and must remain clear for emergency access.
  • Once the green area is full, please proceed through the parking lot using the yellow route and park in an available space.
  • Students will exit the building, use the crosswalk (highlighted in red), and meet you at your vehicle.
  • After your student is in the vehicle, please exit the parking lot safely.

Safety Reminders:

  • Maintain a speed of 10 MPH or less.
  • Stay alert and watch for students and staff walking through the parking lot.
  • Only park in designated parking spaces or temporarily in the drop-off/pick-up lane.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our students safe.

Note from the Assistant Principal

Welcome back Algonquin Eagles! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer. It was wonderful to see so many of you in the building last week at our 6th grade WEB event and Eagle Check-In. As we enter a new school year, I look forward to seeing our Algonquin students SOAR when they stay safe, own their actions, accept each other, and are responsible. Throughout the first weeks of school, we will go over what it means to SOAR as an Algonquin Eagle and how we can work together to have a successful year. I am excited to see everyone for the first day of school! GO EAGLES!

SCHOOL MEALS

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided to students at no cost! Students will need money added to their account to purchase doubles or snacks/beverages.

All Chippewa families are asked to complete the Education Benefits Form. This is important because it helps Chippewa Valley Schools secure necessary state and federal funding for education programs, including Title 1 funding. This form also may help community members lower their internet cost, reduce AP testing/college application fees, and more!

IDs Required for Meals

  • All students must have their ID in hand to receive their breakfast and lunch.
  • Students were issued ID cards at Eagle Check-In.
  • If a student misplaces their ID, they will receive one free ID. Any additional ID's will be available for a fee.
  • If a student does not have an ID, they will be served after all students who do have their ID.
  • Students who do not have their ID will be given hot lunch or cereal for breakfast. Pizza, snacks and a la carte items will not be sold or given to students without an ID.

Dropping Off Students Lunches

If you are bringing a lunch for a student, a bin for each grade level will be located in the atrium. Please write the student's name and grade on the lunch and place in the appropriate grade-level bin. Food deliveries will only be accepted by family members of the student. Fast food or carryout delivery are not permitted.

We do not allow drop offs of fast food/restaurant orders or pizza for student lunches as this is disruptive to the atmosphere in the cafeteria. Students may not order Door Dash/Grub Hub deliveries to school. Drop off/delivery of items such as flowers, balloons, etc. for students is also not permitted.
