Each week, Central High School sent six students to Kennedy Elementary to construct a shed that will be used to house lacrosse and soccer equipment. Every week, students focused on a new trade required to complete the construction project.

Week 1: Students placed and tied rebar that would be used to strengthen the concrete slab that would be the floor of the shed.

Week 2: Students poured concrete footings that would be the foundation and provide support for the structure.

Week 3: Students completed the process of framing and sheeting the exterior walls of the shed.

Week 4: Students got a workout setting up scaffolding around the perimeter of the shed. They were also able to haul up and secure all of the trusses that would provide the structure of the roof.

Week 5: On a hot day, the students were up on the roof laying down the first rows of shingles.

Week 6: Student tried their hands the exterior finishing trades by installing siding, fascia, and soffits.

Week 7: All of the students, construction workers, and MAPS staff involved in the planning and construction of the shed were invited to see the finished product.

The lessons learned during this construction project will allow these students to have marketable skills that will last them a lifetime. Thank you to WEB Construction, Knutson Construction, Schmidt Siding and Window, and BLK Electric for partnering with MAPS in the construction of this project. Also, a big thank you to our Career Pathway Coordinator, Caleb Watson, for his vision and efforts in making this all possible. We look forward to future projects!

On Friday, May 30, during our informal graduation, eight students presented on their experience during the program and received their $500 check from Project Success for completing their Certified Nursing Assistant program through South Central College.

We are incredibly proud of these students. They started this program in early January. Every Wednesday, students attended class at South Central and learned the skills and knowledge required to pass the state exam. Each student performed their clinical at Oak Terrace Assisted Living and were offered a paid internship. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) scholarships are also offered to students.

In all, students are eligible for $1,500 in stipends by successfully completing the program, taking the state exams, and participating in the internship. Central High School would like to thank Dr. Elia Dimayuga-Bruggeman and the rest of the team at Project Success for their ongoing support for our students.

Central High School will be offering this program next year (2025-2026) during the spring semester. We encourage parents and guardians to discuss this opportunity with their students.

๐ŸŽ“ Minnesota North Star Promise โ€“ Free College for Eligible Students!

  • Be Minnesota residents

  • Attend a public college or university in Minnesota

  • Meet basic eligibility and enrollment requirements

Encourage your student to complete their FAFSA as soon as possible to take advantage of this opportunity! Learn more at www.ohe.state.mn.us

Application for Educational Benefits (Free and Reduced Lunch Application) Application for Educational Benefits (Free and Reduced Lunch Application)

Starting September 5, 2023, the state of Minnesota started to cover the cost of one breakfast meal and one lunch meal for every student. Due to this, many families have not seen the need to fill out the application for educational benefits form.

It is important that families continue to fill this form out each year. Our school receives additional funding when families qualify for these benefits. Additional funding means more materials more staff, and more resources to meet the needs of your students.

There are two ways to apply:

1. Print, fill out, and return this application to Central High School

2. You can also apply in the Infinite Campus Portal by clicking on the "More" tab and then the "Meal Benefits" tab.

Please consider filling out this application. Funds from these benefits support your child's education.
