WPUSD eNews: February 2026
Important Upcoming Dates
February 16-20 - President's Week, No School, District Office Open Tues-Thurs 9am-1pm
Kerry Callahan, Superintendent
WPUSD Board of Trustees
Board Meeting Highlights & Upcoming Meetings
Board Meeting Highlights
- The Board held their Spotlight on Excellence meeting at Twelve Bridges High School, hearing from students and staff about their CTE pathway involvement and achievements, Speech & Debate Club, and an overview of campus priorities related to culture, academics, athletics, and the arts.
- The Board approved an MOU between WPUSD and CSEA creating pay tiers for Paraprofessionals based on the positions they serve. With these tiers, the District aims to acknowledge the additional responsibilities required in some Paraprofessional roles and attract more applicants through higher pay potential.
- The Board approved the creation of a van driver position and the related job description.
- WPUSD Chief Business Official Carrie Carlson presented an overview of the Governor’s proposed budget. Key highlights included a proposed fully funded COLA, while shortfalls include $5.6 billion diverted from Prop 98 dollars, which would negatively impact District funding.
- As part of WPUSD’s charter oversight of John Adams Academy, the Board received the Fiscal Year 2024–25 consolidated audit (covering Roseville, Lincoln, and El Dorado Hills). The audit identified a significant deficiency in the school’s year-end closing process due to numerous post-submission adjustments during the audit period.
- Superintendent Kerry Callahan presented a future policy change that would restrict electric bicycle (e-bike) use for elementary and middle school students to Class 1 only. The Board will take action on this proposed change at their next meeting.
- February 10, 2026 - First Street Elementary, 6pm

Supporting Student Safety During Civic Engagement
From time to time, students may choose to participate in civic or political activities during the school day, including walkouts or off-campus events. We want families to understand the protocols schools are required to follow and how we can work together to keep students safe.
Under California Education Code Section 48205(a)(12)(A)–(B), middle and high school students may be excused from school to participate in a civic or political event when the student notifies the school in advance. This excusal is limited to one civic or political event per school year, per school.
If a student provides proper notice and follows the required checkout process, the absence may be recorded as excused. If a student leaves campus during instructional time without notifying the school or following procedures, the absence is recorded as unexcused, and families are contacted in accordance with district attendance practices.
While schools are required to comply with state law, student safety remains our top priority. When students leave campus during the school day—sometimes without prior family awareness—it can create safety concerns, particularly if students are off campus without supervision.
We strongly encourage families to maintain open lines of communication with their students about planned absences, expectations, and safety. Talking ahead of time helps ensure students exit campus appropriately and return safely.
Our role as a district is to comply with California Education Code, respect students’ rights, and maintain a safe, orderly learning environment for all. Thank you for partnering with us to support student safety and communication.
Beacon Alerts: New Parent Notifications Starting February 27
As most of you know, we use GoGuardian as a content filter to help protect students while they are online. One feature of this platform, called Beacon, alerts administrators and counselors when its system detects online activity that may show signs of self-harm or threats of violence toward others.
Beginning February 27, we will be enabling an additional feature that allows guardians to receive notifications outside of school hours.
Here’s how it will work:
During school hours (7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday), school staff will continue to receive alerts about concerning activity so they can respond and support students. Outside of those hours, the same administrative team will still be notified, but an email notification will also be sent to any address listed in PowerSchool as a guardian with custody.
We hope this added layer of communication—along with the GoGuardian Parent App that was set up earlier this year—provides families with greater transparency into their student’s online activity.
As a reminder, you can also sign up for GoGuardian Parent by following the instructions linked here.

Solar/Energy Project Update🔋
The design phase for the solar parking structures are complete and the projects are moving into the next phase ahead of construction for the following campuses.
Twelve Bridges High School
Twelve Bridges Middle School
Twelve Bridges Elementary School
Lincoln High School
Foskett Ranch Elementary School
These sites were identified by SitlogiQ, the district’s contracted energy services provider, based on their physical layouts and their ability to benefit most from solar parking structures.
Construction schedules have shifted due to delays with the Division of State Architects (DSA). We are working to finalize those timelines and will communicate directly with each site as their constructions schedules are set.
Facilities Needs Committee Update
At our most recent Facilities Needs Committee meetings, community participants took a hands-on look at how school facilities funding works and the many pieces that go into long-term planning. Members reviewed conceptual site maps showing potential campus reconfigurations, site improvements, and remaining project phases — then got to do something fun and interactive.
With “Monopoly money” in hand, participants were invited to spend their dollars on the projects they felt should be the highest priorities. This activity sparked great conversation, thoughtful questions, and valuable insight into what our community values most when it comes to school facilities. The results will be presented to the committee at our next meeting in February.
E-Bike & E-Scooter Reminder🚲
Before the holiday break, we shared information regarding potential restrictions on the use of Class 2 e-bikes for elementary and middle school students. The WPUSD Board of Trustees will take action on the amended policy at the February 10 meeting.
To review the full details of the original communication sent on December 15, 2025, please use the button link below.
We encourage families to stay informed as the Board considers policy updates to align with current safety laws and practices in nearby districts.

College & Career Connections
From the College and Career Centers of WPUSD
The purpose of WPUSD CTE is to improve and sustain programs that ensure our students have the skills to enter the workplace and grow in their professions as creative critical thinkers, communicators, and collaborators.
CTE classes are academic courses which focus student learning on knowledge and skills for a specific industry, such as Advanced Manufacturing or Healthcare. The majority of our CTE courses are at LHS or TBHS with one CTE Wheel elective course at TBMS. The CTE Wheel course allows students to sample several different CTE subjects in one semester.
The CTE programs of study involve a multiyear sequence of courses in a specific pathway, ending in a capstone course which allows students to practice their skills. The pathways incorporate leadership, student organizations and leads to postsecondary education and careers.
Our WPUSD CTE Advisory meets each fall and comprises CTE Teachers, Parents, Students, Administrators, Counselors, Special Education Teachers, and Industry Partners. The purpose of our advisory is to discuss and advise each other on current CTE standards and industry practices. This supports improvement and helps sustain our programs to ensure our students have the skills to enter the workplace and grow in their professions as creative critical thinkers, communicators, and collaborators.
Here is a link to a list of our CTE Pathways. Next time we will take a closer look at Work Based Learning.

Spotlight on Excellence
Mr. Mike at Foskett Ranch Elementary
WPUSD is proud to recognize Mr. Mike Leslie, an ASD teacher at Foskett Ranch Elementary, for the incredible impact he has on students and families every day.
After starting his career in the corporate world, Mr. Mike found his true calling in special education. He brings patience, joy, and genuine care into his classroom, helping students build confidence and develop essential skills.
Recently, a family new to our district shared how meaningful Mr. Mike’s support has been for their son. Through thoughtful assessments, strong communication, and a welcoming classroom environment, he helped their child feel safe, supported, and excited to come to school. In fact, their son now asks each night, “School tomorrow? Mr. Mike?”—a powerful reminder of how much connection matters.
We are grateful for educators like Mr. Mike who lead with heart and make a lasting difference for our students.
Celebrating Excellence in Leadership
We’re proud to celebrate three outstanding leaders who were honored as Placer County's ACSA Region 2 award winners at last night’s awards gala! Their dedication, impact, and commitment to students and staff truly set the standard for excellence:

Each of these leaders makes a lasting difference in our schools and across our region. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for the incredible work you do every day in service of students and school communities.
