Family Engagement Opportunities
Wondering how you can help make Superior High School the best place it can be? Here are some exciting opportunities to get involved.
New PTSA Group!
BIG NEWS! Starting next year, Superior Middle School PTSA has decided to become Superior Middle & High School PTSA!
What does this mean? They will be able to help support both Middle and High School students, staff, and schools. More information on the group can be found here. The next meeting will be on October 26th.
Consider getting involved! Find their Facebook Page here for opportunities and meeting details.
There are so many ways to become involved, at whatever level fits your lifestyle. We would love your input. Jump on board!
Fall Conferences
Our second night of conference is coming up on Tuesday, October 3rd from 3:30-7:30! This is open-house style and we have SO MUCH GOING ON on. You could catch a game, stop in to meet with a few teachers, and then check out a senior project or swing by the Spartan Shack. We will also have many community resource tables. Check out the details below.
We love how our Spartan Community supports our teachers! Thank you to Holden Insurance and Downs Funeral Home for providing dinner for teachers on the 28th, and to Action Acton Re/Max and Culvers Superior on the 3rd.
Thank you to all who sent in treats for teachers this week! Its gave them the sugar boost to power through their long night.
All Night Grad Party Planning
It is time to start planning the All Night Grad Party for our 2024 Spartan Grads. We invite any junior or senior parents that are interested in being a part of this event to attend the first planning meeting that will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at 6:00 p.m. at SHS in the library conference room. If you are not able to attend the first meeting, but would like to be a part of the event, please email Nicky Wilson at nickyw2433@gmail.com to be included on future meeting notices.
Being that graduation is on Friday evening again this year, we are hoping to get more junior parents involved with the planning and set up for the party. This will ensure senior parents have more time to spend with their families on the day of graduation.
We look forward to working with you to plan an amazing event for our students!

Focus On Strengths
What do you tend to remember when you get feedback on your performance at work? What you’re doing well or what you need to work on? No surprise but a study found that teenagers also more frequently remember discussions where they hear about parental concerns than conversations about their strengths. They know what you think they’re doing wrong, but they don’t really hear and remember what they’re doing right. Change that by consistently talking about their positive attributes. They’re more likely to use their strengths when they know you notice them, too.
Mental Health First Aid
Juniors will be receiving teen Mental Health First Aid Training right within our school for a three day unit soon. Here are some opportunities in our community to attend the same free program.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
This FREE program teaches you identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescence ages 12-18.
Positive Parenting Program
This FREE program is a 5 week series held via Zoom.

Event Expectations
Just a reminder for our students and fans. If you know of a K-8 student who wants to join in the fun, please remind parents that they must attend and sit with their younger student. Thanks for helping us keep the sidelines fun, positive, and safe for all.
Class of 2024
Senior Portraits
Senior Photos are due by Friday, Oct. 27.
Student's have been emailed instructions by Mrs. Kalin.
Spartan Snaps
Spartan Alum and Professional photographer Ayla Androsky, owner of Ayla Jade Photography, will set up a studio in Mrs. Kalin’s classroom every Wednesday in October during lunch for Spartan Snaps. Seniors can get free grad pictures taken during those time slots, with one copy earmarked for the yearbook. Students must "book" their session by contacting Mrs. Kalin.
Our goal is that every student is represented in our 2024 yearbook.

Student Life
Student Announcements
Did your student mention auditions for a drama production in early October? Are they icing you out? Every day we email out announcements and opportunities to our students. Do you want a peek at what they get? Click here for the announcements for the day. Sometimes our students may overlook things that guardians might think is a good fit for them. Like joining the FBLA or trying out Basketball by catching an open gym. It's worth taking a glance once in awhile to see what info they are getting and possibly having a conversation at home.
Fall Ball
Fall Ball is hosted by our Student Council on Saturday, October 7th. Tickets go on sale MONDAY at the treasurers office. NEW THIS YEAR: Skip the line and purchase your ticket via this link.

Attendance Matters
Contact Ms. Elaine at elaine.holmberg@superior.k12.wi.us with any questions or assistance with attendance needs. Here are some reminders.
PowerSchool
Communication about attendance and grades is a top priority each year at the secondary school level. To help facilitate communication, SHS uses an online grade book called PowerSchool. A PowerSchool parent account will allow you to check your student’s progress in school including grades, lunch balance, as well as their attendance.
If you need any assistance with PowerSchool (getting set up, resetting your password, etc), contact Mrs. Waltenburg any time.
District Calendar
The 2023/24 Calendar can be viewed HERE. Remember that there is NO SCHOOL on October 30th and 31st.
Pssst
Did you make it all the way to the bottom? Thanks for sticking with me. As a reward, I will let you know that a little birdy told me there might be a Snow Ball Dance this year. If I find out more, I'll be sure to let you know. - LeAnn ;)
