📝 MAP Testing & Student Success
Most of our MAP testing will conclude on May 8th. To help our students perform their best during these final assessments, we encourage parents to focus on healthy testing habits:
Prioritize Sleep: Ensure students get a full night's rest to support focus and memory.

❤️ A Final Message from the Principal
As this school year draws to a close, I share some personal news with a grateful heart. This will be my final newsletter, as I will be retiring at the end of this term.
I have spent the last 10 years serving as a building administrator and a total of 22 years working here in Meramec Valley. This community and its residents hold a very special place in my heart. One of the greatest privileges of my career has been the opportunity you shared with me: the chance to watch your children grow up. Seeing them evolve from curious (or lost) students into young adults—and now even seeing former students returning as parents (or even as staff members!!!)—has been a profound joy.
I want to extend a deep thank you to our incredible building staff and to you, the parents, for your support during my final year and throughout my tenure. We have worked hard to build a "pretty good school" here, and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. As I move into retirement, I leave you with one final thought: always "remember where you came from."
With sincere gratitude for one final time,
Matt Agee

Can you believe the school year is almost over? The finish line is in sight, and our students have been working hard all year to prepare for 6th grade! We have spent time strengthening reading and writing skills in preparation for MAP testing. By the time you receive this update, we will already be testing and putting those skills to work.
As summer approaches, we encourage you to help your child continue practicing these important skills. Simple activities like reading directions while cooking, writing a shopping list, or keeping a summer journal are great and fun ways to keep reading and writing skills sharp over the break.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We are so proud of the growth, effort, and progress our students have made, and we know they are ready for the exciting adventures of 6th grade!
Math
Dear Pacific Intermediate Families,
This has been a great school year, and I can’t believe we are already in May. It has been great getting to know our students and building relationships. Please know that we are here to support both you and your child throughout this school year. Clear communication between home and school is one of the most important ways we can work together to ensure a smooth and successful year. If questions or concerns come up, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
The Importance of Homework
Homework is an essential part of reinforcing daily learning. It allows students to practice skills taught in class and build confidence in their abilities. Homework is also a reflection of responsibility and preparation for class. Please help encourage your child to complete and return homework on time each day. It is important to note that homework is not just “50% of their grade”—it plays a significant role in overall success by supporting mastery of skills and readiness for assessments.
What We’re Learning in Math This Month
In math, we will be finishing up the MAP test and still reviewing 5th-grade math concepts. Once MAP testing is finished, we will be covering our last chapter, which is measurement and measurement conversions.
MAP Prep
Reviewing 5th-grade math concepts
Identifying keywords and information from word problems
Measurement
Understanding different units of measurement
Converting measurements within customary (inches, feet, pounds) and metric (meters, grams, liters)
We are so grateful for your partnership and support. Together, we made this year full of growth, confidence, and success for every child.
Science & History
Students will be mainly focusing on History to end the school year. We will be learning all about World War II.

6th Grade English: Mr. McMahan & Ms. Stumborg
English students just finished up their research presentation and shared them with their classmates. Next, students will be focusing on comprehension activities to review important skills learned this year. Our final project will be a Choose Your Own Adventure project where they can create multiple storylines for their classmates to follow.
6th Grade Math: Mrs. Voss & Mrs. Weil
As we wrap up the year, we will continue to practice our math skills. We will be learning different types of graphs while finishing our school year review. Please make sure your child is completing their assignments on a nightly basis. We have thoroughly enjoyed having your child in class this year.
6th Grade Reading: Mr. McMahon, Mrs. Meyers & Ms. Stumborg
In reading class, we just completed our second novel of the year, The Unwanteds. We will continue to read in our textbook Unit 5 "Surviving the Unthinkable". The selections include fiction, nonfiction, media, and poetry. This has been a great year and the kids have gotten to experience a large variety of different literature.
6th Grade Science: Mrs. Beer & Mrs. Todahl
We are currently learning about the rock cycle and Earth’s history in science. Students are exploring how rocks change over time and what they can tell us about the past. We are doing a variety of hands-on labs and activities to help students better understand these processes.
6th Grade Social Studies: Mrs. Boling & Mr. Effan
We will be starting our last chapter, which is over the Roman Empire and its ultimate collapse. We will also be preparing for our finals during the last week and a half of the year.

Hello Pacific Intermediate families!
Can you believe it is May and the school year is almost over? The time has gone so quickly! We only have a few things to do before we wrap it up, and get ready to enjoy summer. Students either have started MAP testing or will be starting soon. We are excited for them to show us how much they have learned this year. Additionally, students and staff are reminding ourselves that the last few weeks of school are important to achieving goals and students maintaining or improving their grades.
Fifth graders started MAP testing on Tuesday, April 28th and will test from 8:10 - 9:40am for nine days. Our 6th graders will start their assessments on Tuesday, May 5th and will test from 7:45 - 9:45am for three days. Ask your student how testing is going for them and encourage them to do their best! Both 5th and 6th graders will be assessed in Language Arts and Math. 5th graders will additionally be tested in Science. Your continued assistance in getting your child to eat breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and arrive at school on time is greatly appreciated.
The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 21st and students will be dismissed at noon. May is a busy time of year as many students will be completing projects, testing, and saying goodbye to friends for the summer. We also have many fun activities to look forward to this month such as field trips and field day! Through all of the excitement it is important that you are able to encourage your students that even though the year is almost over, the last few weeks are very important to their grades. Try to help them stay on track with their classes, homework, tests, and effort. For those students doing well, working hard the remaining weeks will allow them to maintain their grades. Working hard the last few weeks for those struggling can make the difference between a passing grade, failing grade, and for a few mandatory summer school.
The counseling department has loved working with your students this year. We see their growth and abilities daily! Our 6th graders are ready to move onto Riverbend for more responsibility and privileges. They will be missed. 5th graders welcome to 6th grade! You came into our school nervous about merging with other elementary schools and having more responsibilities. Now you are confident and ready to take on the 6th grade student leadership role at Pacific Intermediate. Be safe and we will see you again in August.
Enjoy your time with your families spending relaxed time together, having fun and creating memories.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jeanne Diamond
