Board Meetings
Board Meetings are the last Thursday of the Month.
The location for meetings for this year will be at Lynda's house or via Zoom.
If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member.
Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.
Tidbits from the President
The first REAL cold weather has arrived. I hope everyone stayed warm (and dry). I had a great time with family over the holidays. I have great luck with VRBOs, and this one was a VERY large 1900s renovated home. Enough room for 2 adult children (with spouses), the almost full time ‘visiting’ of my 3rd adult child and family AND 2 nights of HUGE extended family dinners. When it all calmed down, my granddaughter (10) brought her sewing machine over and we spent two days making a rat costume for her school play. I loved it all and was very appreciative of the quiet home I returned to. (ha, ha).
January is the slow beginning of all the ‘quilting’ events. Time to find a volunteer to coordinate the 2026 raffle quilt (hint, hint). If you haven’t already started, we need quilts to enter into the NTQF show, items for the NTQF booth, and minis for the NTQF auction. And there are always those NICU quilts and lovies. Remember to bring your quilts for show and tell, since we didn’t get to see them in December! Too much? Well, have fun doing it ALL.
SECURITY !!! (repeat)
It’s time to remind everyone that …
When you leave, make sure you exit with SOMEONE. It’s the buddy system. There are occasionally people cutting through the parking lot at night and we don’t want any issues. Everything seems a little more scary at night if you are alone.
ALSO…the church would prefer that we only use one door for entering and leaving the church. So we will be using the KITCHEN entrance only.
If you do NOT have mobility issues, please use the parking spots further from that door, and leave the close ones for those in need. Thank you.

BEES
EMBROIDERY BEE
We have moved our meeting time to 10 am on the last Thursday of the month.
We will skip the January meeting, then begin meeting at Hollis Threads in February, and we pay $5 each for use of their meeting room. New members are welcome..
Contact Wanda Edmunds or Sarah Tutt for more information.
FRAYED KNOTS
We enjoyed our New Year sew-in and will meet again on Jan 14.
TIGHT KNOTS --
Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.
Retreat 2025
Shelley has already begun to take reservations for the 2025 retreat, which will be April 3-6, 2025.
Bev Ramsey Fund
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
Quilts of Valor
Happy New Year
The QOV 2025 block has been announced, and it is the Log Cabin. Instructions are in the attachments below. We’ll be making lots of them and choosing different layouts to put them together. We’ll still be making star blocks and panel quilts. It’s fun seeing all the different quilts people come up with. And the veterans love them!
The QOVF National Sew Day is February 1, 2025. We will gather at The Berry Patch Quilt Shop again and sew blocks and quilt tops from 10-3. There is room for only eight people to sew, so I’ll have a sign-up sheet at the January meeting. Current QOV members are encouraged to go to the website and register for the sew day. They will be giving away prizes and you have to be registered to be eligible
Cecilia Buckholz
Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Harris Downtown for their NICU unit. We delivered about 150 of them recently, and have asked a representative of the unit to speak briefly about what they mean to the families.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
Happy New Year fellow quilters!
Now that 2025 is here and the holiday rush is behind us, let's resolve to make at least one NICU quilt to donate this year. Our donations are really appreciated by JPS and the moms who receive them for their newborns.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has also requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long
9 inches – circumference for small
11 inches – circumference for large
CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com
Adult Items:
These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS cancer center and geriatric patients.
Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)
Ostomy bag covers
Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery
Submitted by: Judi Janes and Carolyn Hughes – NICU Co-Chairpersons

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG pictures. We can attach PDF documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
I would like to share pictures of show-and-tell items, but we must have someone willing to take pictures and email them to the guild email address.
If you are unable to bring your project to the meeting for Show and Share, send a picture to the guild address - with subject - Newsletter show n share. We can include a brief description
