SAFE GUN STORAGE
In accordance with Sec. 37.222 of the Texas Education Code, school districts are required to provide parents and guardians with information regarding the proper storage of firearms. It is illegal to store, transport or leave an unsecured firearm in a location where children are likely to have access to it. A person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
- Failed to secure the firearm; or
- Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.
The penalty for allowing a child to gain access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4,000 fine, a year in jail or a combination of the two).
It is important to store guns unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored separately to prevent suicide, unintentional shootings and other tragedies.

CLASS OF 2027 GRADUATION CEREMONY
Graduation is an exciting milestone, and Katy ISD looks forward to celebrating the Class of 2027 with our graduates, families and friends. As you begin planning for this special occasion, please review the important information below regarding graduation ceremonies, guest attendance, parking and transportation, inclement weather plans and graduation photography.
Ceremony Schedule
The Class of 2027 Spring Graduation Ceremonies will begin Wednesday, May 26, 2027, with two ceremonies scheduled each evening.
Additional ceremony details and campus-specific information will be shared as graduation approaches.
Guest Attendance and Parking
There is no limit to the number of guests who may attend graduation ceremonies held at Legacy Stadium or Rhodes Stadium. However, stadium on-site parking is limited.
Each graduate will receive two parking passes for on-site stadium parking. Oversized vehicles requiring more than one parking space are not permitted.
Families bringing additional vehicles are encouraged to use rideshare services or the designated overflow parking and shuttle locations identified on their high school graduation parking map. View ceremony parking maps.
Overflow parking and shuttle services will begin two hours before each ceremony’s scheduled start time. Guests using overflow parking and shuttle services should also note the final return shuttle departure times following each evening’s ceremonies:
Legacy Stadium: 10 p.m.
Rhodes Stadium: 11:15 p.m.
Campus and district personnel working at graduation ceremonies will park off-site at Merchants Way and use district-provided shuttle transportation, helping preserve stadium parking for graduates and their families.
Inclement Weather
Because graduation ceremonies are held outdoors, Katy ISD will closely monitor weather conditions and communicate any necessary changes with families.
If a ceremony cannot begin or be completed due to inclement weather, it will be moved to the Leonard Merrell Center the following day.
Rescheduled ceremonies will begin at the following times:
Ceremonies originally scheduled at Legacy Stadium: 8 a.m.
Ceremonies originally scheduled at Rhodes Stadium: 1 p.m.
Due to the Leonard Merrell Center’s limited seating capacity, each graduate will receive four admission tickets for the rescheduled indoor ceremony. Tickets will be sent to the graduate’s Katy ISD email address on the morning of the ceremony.
The two parking passes issued to each graduate for stadium on-site parking will also be required for on-site parking at the Leonard Merrell Center if the ceremony is relocated due to inclement weather. Oversized vehicles requiring more than one parking space are not permitted.
Families are encouraged to monitor district communications and the Katy ISD Graduation Website for weather-related updates.
Graduation Photography
Information about graduation ceremony photos, including purchasing information, will be posted in January on the Katy ISD Graduation Website.
Families are encouraged to check the website periodically for important graduation updates and announcements.

We are excited to honor the accomplishments of the Class of 2027 and look forward to celebrating this unforgettable milestone with our graduates and their families. Congratulations to the Class of 2027!
MORE THAN A GIFT CARD – IT'S COMMUNITY
Katy ISD Partners in Education is launching its annual Food for Families campaign, inviting the Katy ISD community to help provide a little extra support to families during the winter break. Campuses identify families who would benefit from the program, while community and corporate donations fund $75 grocery gift cards that are personally delivered by campus staff. For a family facing a difficult season, that gift card can mean more than groceries—it can mean one less worry, the freedom to choose what their family needs most and a reminder that their community cares.
Help us turn a gift card into something more.
