First Day of School in Killeen ISD

There’s Nothing Like the First Day

There’s a different kind of energy when our schools fill up again. Students streamed through the doors Monday to familiar faces, new teachers, hugs, high-fives and plenty of helping hands. Across Killeen ISD, classrooms came back to life as tens of thousands of students settled in, made new connections and took their first steps into a year filled with opportunities to learn, grow and discover what they can do. It was a strong start, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

Red Brigade Headed to the National Stage

The Harker Heights High School Red Brigade is headed to Indianapolis after being named one of just 25 high school bands in the nation invited to perform at the prestigious Music for All National Festival next spring. The wind ensemble will have the opportunity to perform, learn from top instructors and connect with talented musicians from across the country. For students who have watched the program grow year after year, the invitation is proof that their hard work is being noticed far beyond Killeen ISD.

KISD Climbs Five Points, Now One Point from a B

Killeen ISD made significant progress in the 2026 state accountability ratings, climbing five points from a 74 to a 79 and moving within just one point of a B district rating. Harker Heights High School earned an A, Killeen High School jumped 10 points to a B, and several middle schools posted double-digit gains. There's more work ahead, but the results show strong momentum across KISD.
