Jan/Feb 2026 FMS Newsletter
From the desk of Mr. Reily (FMS Principal)
It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the school year. Our students, our staff and parents have worked so hard to help students succeed and it has paid dividends. Student scores are up, classes are engaged, and discipline actions are down significantly from last year. As the school year moves into its second half, your encouragement can make a powerful difference in helping middle school students stay focused and motivated. This is often the time when routines feel harder to maintain and long-term goals can seem far away, so consistent support, clear expectations, and positive conversations at home are essential. The second half of the school year is full of events and expectations. Celebrating small successes, reinforcing good study habits, and reminding students that effort now builds confidence and skills for the future can help them push through challenges. With your guidance and belief in them, students are more likely to stay engaged, finish the year strong, and feel proud of what they accomplish. Thank you so much for your support of our students and of Floresville Middle School. Together we will work to help all students continue to grow and finish this year strong.

FMS February Character Lesson
What is Kindness?
Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.
Why focus on Kindness?
- Kindness boosts positive emotions. Acts of kindness create neural pathways that enhance feelings of well-being and the natural flow of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters.
- Kindness is self-replicating. When we perform an act of kindness, it is likely to encourage others to act in a similar way.
- Kindness reduces stress and anxiety. Kindness promotes positive relationships with other people. Anything that helps you to build bonds with other people helps decrease anxiety.
Kindness in Action:
- Celebrate small things. Start each day with Good Things as a class. Publicly and privately affirm kind and thoughtful actions and attitudes.
- Create opportunities for students to regularly affirm each other. Once a week, dedicate time for students to write notes of affirmation to classmates and school staff members.
- Model Kindness. Be mindful of body language, tone, and mindset. Kindness is learned by example.
