8th Graders Start Friday, July 24 from 8:00am - 2:20pm

On behalf of my wonderful teachers and staff, I would like to welcome you and your student(s) to Delta Sierra Middle School - "Home of the Seahawks" for the 2026-2027, school year. We have many activities planned for your student and your family that I hope you will be able to participate in. This weekly newsletter will be emailed to you each Sunday at 6:00pm using the phone and email address you have submitted to our school district. (please remember to inform our office when you have a change in your contact information)

Please know that this weekly newsletter will contain official information about our school along with our school website and any pertinent email or connect phone message that gets sent to you regarding the activation of or emergency and safety protocols. You may also contact the office to obtain additional information.

Support Staff to Help Your Student:

To quickly assist you and your student, I have structured my vice principals and school counselors to be your first and second lines of communication about everything you will want to know related to your student whether that be a student discipline issue, bullying, student conflict, complaint, student grades, how to set up a parent meeting with teachers, rumor control, bad posts about your student that appeared on social media, or just to find out how your student is doing academically.

7th Grade Support Staff are:

Vice Principal, Mr. Carleton Wade

School Counselor, Ms. Michelle Mazza

8th Grade Support Staff are:

Vice Principal, Mr. Jose Ferreira

School Counselor, Mr. Victor Mendoza Acevedo

When an issue comes up, you are encouraged to contact the above support staff rather than myself. This is because many of my duties take me off campus or have me in classrooms that limit my time in my office. However, I usually can return calls and emails 24 hours later. My staff can respond usually the same day, so please reach out to them.

On-going Parent Input Requested regarding School Plan for Student Achievement - SPSA for 2026-2027:

Our School Site Council has parent representatives that are invited to our meetings to hear about our Title 1 program and budget. Our School Site Council, approved funding for the ongoing implementation of our Co-Teaching Instructional Model. The model enables a selected number of classroom teachers to work during their prep period to co-teach with their colleagues in their colleagues' classroom. Students get extra help during school hours in their core classes, such as English, math, social studies, and science. We want to keep our Co-Teaching Instructional Model going by using Title 1 funds (and other funds) to operate the program. It is our aim to see increases in student achievement for all of our student subgroups that include students with exceptional needs and our multi-lingual learners. Feel free to continue to share with us your ideas that will help our students reach and exceed academic standards.

We currently are in need of 3 parent/guardians to nominate themselves at our Back to School and Title 1 Parent Information Night using the google form. Once the nominations come in they candidates will be placed on the ballot and our parent/guardian peer group can vote in their representative members. Please stay tuned for more details.

In particular, parent/guardians will be introduced to the 2026-2027 School Plan for Student Achievement - (SPSA) which contain the school goals and major activities to reach desired outcomes that enable students to increase their academic achievement. Please consult this newsletter for the schedule of when ELAC meetings are held.

Our Delta Sierra PBIS team this week is encouraging positive praise with your children. Reinforcing good behaviors increases the chances our students will repeat the words and actions we want to see and hear. This takes practice and is worth the time and effort to build a more positive relationship with our students and children.

Cell Phones

Cell phones have become a way of life, a technological convenience that has impacted all our lives in one way or another. However, in the school environment, cell phones have become a distraction, interruption, and a method of illegal exchange of information. The ringing of the cell phone during class or text-messaging takes away the valuable time needed for instruction and most importantly, student learning. We do recognize cell phones can be a safety/security tool; however, they can be a detriment in the event of a building emergency and our protocol to manage such emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Parents are urged to use the school office’s phone to relay any urgent messages to their child. We will do our best to relay any urgent information to your child. Please refer to the first page of the student planner for additional information.

After School tutoring

After-school tutoring refers to additional academic assistance or instruction that students receive outside of regular school hours. This type of support is often provided to help students who may be struggling with their coursework or to offer enrichment opportunities for those who want to further excel in their studies. Here are some key aspects to consider when it comes to after-school tutoring:

  1. Purpose:

    • Remedial Support: Some students may need extra help to catch up with their peers in specific subjects.

Enrichment: Tutoring can also be used to provide advanced or more challenging material to students who are excelling in their studies.

    Subjects Covered:

    • Tutors may focus on a specific subject, or a range of subjects based on student needs.

    Tutoring Formats:

    • One-on-One: Individualized attention allows the tutor to tailor the instruction to the student's specific needs.

Group Tutoring: Several students receive assistance together, promoting collaboration and peer learning.

For more information, please contact your school counselor's 7th grade Michelle Mazza and 8th grade Victor Mendoza.
