Note from Mr. Dubinsky
Reminder: Phones, smartwatches should be off and out of sight at school
Students have been receiving and sending messages from family and friends during the school day. These messages disrupt the learning environment for your child, their classmates, and the teacher. If you need to reach your child during the day, please contact the main office.
Cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices must be kept out of sight in a backpack, purse, or locker during the school day. If a student violates these rules, the device will be confiscated and there may be disciplinary action.
Please have a conversation at home about the appropriate use of technology at school and why it is important that all students are able to focus on their learning.
More information is available on page 42 of the Student/Parent Handbook, CCSD 89 Board of Education Policy 7:192 – Student Use of Mobile Telecommunication Devices, and Board Regulation 7:192-R.
Fifth-grade Outdoor Ed is in the books!
Thank you to our staff and all our parent volunteers.
Your feedback could help get safer routes to school for CCSD 89 students
The Village of Glen Ellyn is gathering information for a Safe Routes to School grant application. As part of that work, the village would like to hear from families at all CCSD 89 schools about your children’s walking and biking to school.
Families are asked to complete this short survey for each school that your child attends: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TGMF3K3
The results of this anonymous survey will be compiled and submitted as part of a proposed application. This is a joint effort between the Village of Glen Ellyn and local school districts.
School bus safety: when to stop
As drivers, you play a crucial role in keeping students safe by knowing when to stop for a school bus. This is a life-saving action! Even a moment of inattention can lead to tragedy.
What do bus lights mean?
Yellow flashing lights: Slow down and prepare to stop. The bus is about to pick up or drop off children.
Red flashing lights and arm extended: Stop in both directions. Children may be crossing the street. It’s the law to stop until the lights stop flashing and the arm is retracted.
When to stop
Two-lane road: Vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.
Two-lane road with center turn lane: Vehicles in all lanes, both directions, must stop.
Multi-lane road (no median): All lanes, all directions, must stop.
Divided highway (with median or barrier): Vehicles behind the bus must stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction should use caution but are not required to stop.
Slow down for yellow lights, stop for red lights, and always be alert for children around school buses.
