Superintendent Search Continues with Finalists and Town Hall
The Board of Education continued its superintendent search process this week, conducting interviews during two special board meetings on Jan. 26 and Jan. 28. Following those meetings, the board announced two finalists and invited the community to participate in a virtual Superintendent Finalist Town Hall on Jan. 29 (the recording and feedback forms are available online through 9 p.m. on Jan. 30).
The board anticipates holding an additional closed session meeting next week to conduct finalist interviews and hopes to make an announcement regarding the next superintendent in February.
The Board thanks staff, families, students, and community members for their ongoing engagement and thoughtful input, and remains committed to keeping the community informed as the process moves forward.
Pilot Update: Building Joy and Confidence in K–5 Math
Transformation Goal 2: We Design for ALL
What is the K-5 math pilot?
This year, teachers from Holmes and Longfellow—along with representatives from Beye, Hatch, Irving, Lincoln, Mann, and Whittier—are participating in a math pilot of Amplify Desmos Math and Math Learning Center Bridges in Mathematics. These two high-quality resources were evaluated and selected by the K-5 Math Curriculum Committee during the 2024-25 school year.
The K–5 math pilot is designed to help students enjoy math, think deeply, and build confidence as learners. The work is grounded in evidence-based practices that support strong problem-solving, collaboration, and a growth mindset. How will the math pilot enhance student learning and engagement?
Pilot teachers are receiving initial training and coaching to support Problem-Based Learning and the effective implementation of each math resource. While teachers not participating in the pilot process are engaging in professional learning to strengthen math instruction with a focus on instructional strategies and practices from Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics by Peter Liljedahl.
What professional learning opportunities are offered this year to enhance math instruction?

What's next?
Throughout the pilot year, the district will collaborate with the K-5 Math Curriculum Committee to gather feedback from teachers, students, and families and review learning data to help determine the best math resource to recommend to the board for district-wide adoption. A recommendation is expected to be shared with the District 97 Board of Education in Spring 2026.
