Reflection...
I want to take a moment to sincerely thank our students. They did an excellent job focusing and working hard during the recent state-wide practice tests (NJSLA/NJGPA Field Test). We are very proud of how seriously they took this important task! I also extend my deepest gratitude to our School Counseling Department, IT Department and all of our teachers. Their collaborative spirit and unwavering support were instrumental in ensuring the test went off smoothly.
On another exciting note, we have a huge weekend ahead for our school! Please come out and show your support:
Tonight: Our playoff football continues at New Providence @ 6:30PM
Tonight & Tomorrow: Don't miss the spectacular performances of our Fall Play, TRAP! Our talented student actors and crew have worked incredibly hard, and it promises to be a fantastic show.

Barbie Bungee
Students in Ms. Halawani’s Statistics classes recently dove into an exciting challenge that combines physics, statistics, and engineering - the Barbie Bungee experiment!
The Activity:
● Students dropped their chosen dolls from various heights in the school stairwell
● Using slow-motion video on their phones and the tape measure presented at their stations, they
precisely measured the maximum drop distances
● Each group tracked the relationship between the distance the doll traveled while bungee jumping and the number of rubber bands needed for a safe landing
The Challenge: Students are now developing linear regression models to predict the exact number of rubber bands required to ensure their doll experiences a perfect bungee jump - close enough to the ground of the stairwell, but not so close that it risks a head-first collision!
Next week's Barbie Bungee Finale will put these mathematical predictions to the ultimate test. Will their equations hold up when their dolls leap? Stay tuned!
Studio Arc
On Friday, November 14th, both Mrs. Parks and Mr. Kochanski's classes took an outing to Studio Arc in Fairfield.
The students were highly engaged in a hands-on, hour-long art class. They spent their time creating intricate designs on embossed cards. It was the first time our students had the opportunity to use an embossing machine which provided valuable experience in a creative setting. The students were able to take their completed artwork home afterwards.
J-E-T-S
On November 4th, the Sports and Entertainment Management class visited MetLife Stadium for their annual Jets Business Day. Students received valuable business insights and an incredible, behind-the-scenes tour. They explored key areas like the concession and sales departments, the Commissioners Suite, and the team locker room, and even walked onto the field. The day concluded with a meeting with Jets executives and sales managers who shared knowledge for a productive future in the industry.
Tomorrow's Teachers
The first marking period was full of excitement for our Tomorrow’s Teachers students! They dove into the work of influential psychologists like Erikson, Vygotsky, and Piaget, exploring how children grow and learn. Our future educators participated in hands-on activities to better understand learning styles and key areas of development—physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and moral. They even built a classroom bulletin board and picked up some teacher-ready skills, like using the copy machine and laminator!
To wrap up the quarter, students spent two days observing classrooms at North End, South End, and MMS, gaining real-world experience and inspiration for their future careers in education. Next semester, these aspiring teachers will begin internships with mentor teachers at the grade level that most interests them. What an exciting next step in their teaching journey!

Casting Call
CAN I TELL YOU A SECRET??
Don't miss the CGHS Fall Play Production of TRAP on:
November 14 at 7 PM
November 15 at 1 PM and 7 PM
Directed by Jaclyn Leibowitz and Jesse Lab
Synopsis:
MENACHAP, CALIFORNIA. An incomprehensible event: every person in the audience of a high school play falls unconscious—every person but one. Using interviews with witnesses, loved ones, first responders, and the investigators pursuing the case, a theatre ensemble brings the story of the strange event to life, documentary-style. But as the strands weave together into an increasingly dangerous web, it becomes clear that this phenomenon might not be entirely in the past. Unnerving, exhilarating, and wildly inventive, you've never walked into anything quite like Trap.

National Honor Society Peer Tutoring
Need a Tutor? The National Honor Society Cedar Grove High School offers Peer Tutoring for all
high-school students (you do not need to be a member of NHS to request a peer tutor). If you
would like to request a peer tutor, please follow the procedure below and check out the peer
tutoring catalog in the attachments for the students name, availability, and subjects they are
offering to teach. We have an amazing group of Senior NHS tutors who are eager to tutor your
student/child.
Procedures:
● Students should contact their teacher for additional assistance.
● Teachers/Counselors may recommend students try the National Honors Society peer
tutoring program.
● Teachers may share this catalog with students in need of tutoring, and the student may
select a tutor that they believe will be a good fit for them. Please keep in mind that many
students tutor in multiple subjects (and many students tutor in the same subject), so try
to find who you feel will be the best fit for your needs.
● Contact Ms.Halawani by email to notify her of your tutor preference BEFORE contacting
the tutor. If a teacher/counselor is contacting Ms. Halawani on behalf of a student,
please include the student in the email.
● After confirming tutor availability with Ms.Halawani copy down your tutor’s contact
information from the catalog.
● Contact your tutor to schedule your sessions.
● Report back to Ms. Halawani informing her of when you are holding tutoring sessions.
Note: Any conflicts/issues should be reported to Ms Halawani: halawani.mirna@cgshools.org
