A Note from the Office

We had lots of school "spirit" this week at North! Yesterday, our preschool students had their annual costume parade, and today our dedicated 5th grade staff gave the kids a show as they arrived at school! They then started their day with their annual Pumpkinology lesson! We look forward to seeing everyone tonight at the Boo Bash. Please remember to park in the front main parking lot, as Trunk-or-Treat vehicles will be designated in the parking area near the gym.

Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Charpentier

MAST Plymouth County Science Educator of the Year

Mr. Neil Kenny has been recognized as the MAST Plymouth County Science Educator of the Year honoring his leadership in promoting and advancing quality science education among colleagues and students. Mr. Kenny exemplifies excellence in teaching through thoughtfully designed lessons, engaging classroom instruction, and a deep commitment to student learning. He also serves as a valued resource as he supports colleagues to strengthen their practice and become more effective educators.

Mr. Kenny's commitment to continuous learning was especially evident when he stepped in to teach physics during a staffing shortage, transitioning from biology to become a full-time physics teacher. He completed the AP Summer Institute for AP Physics 1 and guided students in an open-enrollment AP program. 100% of the students earned qualifying scores on the exam. Mr. Kenny subsequently expanded his expertise and is now teaching the calculus-based AP Physics C.

Mr. Kenny's influence extends well beyond his classroom. Through his instructional expertise, collaboration, and willingness to take on new challenges, he strengthens science education throughout the school community and models lifelong learning for both students and colleagues.

Congratulations Mr. Kenny!

Food Drive for Families in Need!

North Pembroke Elementary is hosting a food drive from October 26 – November 13 to benefit the Firehouse Food Pantry. Families are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to help support community members facing food insecurity. The pantry is especially in need of snacks and baking supplies for the upcoming holidays, including flour, sugar, baking mixes, frosting, spices, chocolate chips, nuts, and other baking essentials.

Donations can be dropped off at North Pembroke Elementary. As an added incentive, the class that collects the most donations will earn an extra recess!

Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program

Officer Marybeth Simmons and her comfort dog, Sasha, have provided supportive services to students at our school since 2023 and are members of the Plymouth County Comfort Dog Program. To better understand the effectiveness of their services, we've partnered with the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program and Bridgewater State University to help them gather feedback from parents, teachers, and students.

We invite you and your child to participate in this evaluation of the program during the 2026-2027 school year. By participating in this process, you and your child will help us understand how Officer Simmons and Sasha support our students' success. Please see the attached document for more information about the evaluation and how you can opt out of the study.

If you do not want your child to participate, please complete this form by October 1st. If you agree to your child’s participation in this study, nothing else is required of you at this time.

If you have questions about this project, please feel free to contact me at marybeth.brust@pembrokek12.org.

Thank you,

Marybeth Brust

REMINDERS REMINDERS

NURSES CORNER:

Should They Stay or Should They Go? When School Children/Youth are Sick

Attendance is important – but your child should not come to school when too sick to learn or there is a risk of making others ill.

When you are questioning whether to send your child to school or not, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Fever ~ A temperature greater than 100.0 is considered a fever. Your child should be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Vomiting and Diarrhea ~ Your child should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Rash ~ A rash is usually a sign of a viral illness. It may also be a reaction to a medication or chemical (plant, detergent). If your child has an unusual rash or it is associated with a fever, contact your doctor. Keep your child home until you have discussed the rash with your doctor.

  • Cold, sore throat, cough ~ Children average six to eight colds per year. Your child may attend school if there is no fever. If cold and cough symptoms are associated with a fever or they do not readily improve, call your doctor.

If your child has anything contagious (i.e. chickenpox, Fifth disease, strep throat, conjunctivitis, impetigo, MRSA, measles, pertussis, etc.), I need to know so we can take the necessary steps to prevent an outbreak.

If your child is being treated for an illness (pneumonia, bronchitis, ear infection, asthma), even if they don’t need medication at school, it is helpful for me to know, so I can provide the best care for them at school.

If your child has sustained an injury ask your healthcare provider when it is safe to return to school and physical activities (physical education and recess). Please ask your child’s doctor for a note with any accommodations required for school.

Children with allergies or asthma are often affected more seriously by respiratory infections and may need to see a healthcare provider.

Strategic Plan

We’re proud to introduce the Pembroke Public Schools Strategic Plan, a roadmap that will guide our priorities and work in the years ahead.

Created with input from our students, families, educators, staff, community partners, and School Committee, the plan reflects what matters most to our community—and where we see opportunities to grow.

Our focus is simple: helping every student thrive. We’ll continue working to strengthen academic outcomes while fostering curiosity, creativity, resilience, belonging, and meaningful support for every learner.

This plan is a living framework that will grow and evolve with our schools and community.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to everyone who helped shape this vision for the future of Pembroke Public Schools.
