Earning a top-four finish at the state level is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects the countless hours of preparation, discipline, and hard work Jaylen has put into her season. Throughout the tournament, she demonstrated strength, focus, and perseverance on the mat while representing our school and community with class.
The Sullivan High School community is incredibly proud of Jaylen and all she has achieved this season. Congratulations on an exceptional state finish and a memorable wrestling season.

Student Safety in Action at Sullivan Elementary School
Southwest School Corporation is proud to recognize the quick thinking and decisive action of Darlene Pirtle, a dedicated aide at Sullivan Elementary School, whose response during a medical emergency helped save a student’s life.
Earlier last week during lunchtime, a fifth-grade student began choking on food and was unable to breathe or speak. Staff members immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation. Ms. Pirtle responded without hesitation, using her training to assist the student and successfully clear the obstruction, allowing the student to breathe again.
Thanks to her calm demeanor and swift response, what could have been a tragic situation was resolved safely. The student was later reported to be doing well. Moments like this highlight the importance of having trained, attentive adults throughout our schools. Emergencies can happen at any time, and the ability to recognize warning signs and act quickly can make a critical difference.
Southwest School Corporation is grateful for staff members like Ms. Pirtle who consistently place student safety first. Her actions are a powerful reminder of the professionalism, care, and commitment shown by our school employees every day.
We commend Ms. Pirtle for her outstanding service and thank all staff members who work diligently to ensure our students are safe, supported, and cared for.
Stronger With School Breakfast
Did you know that eating school breakfast helps fuel students for learning, growth, and success throughout the day?
Research shows that school breakfast plays an important role in providing the nutrition students need to stay focused, healthy, and ready to learn. According to the School Nutrition and Meal Cost Study, students who eat school breakfast consume more of the foods many children do not get enough of—fruits, whole grains, and dairy—than students who eat breakfast elsewhere.
What Does School Breakfast Provide?
School breakfast is shown to provide approximately:
48% of the fruit students need for the entire day
40% of the dairy foods, supporting strong bones and healthy growth
30% of the whole grains, helping students feel full and energized longer
These foods supply essential nutrients such as fiber, calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and B vitamins, which support brain function, digestion, and overall health.
Building Healthy Habits for Life
Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast helps students develop healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime. Studies show these habits are associated with improved focus in the classroom and lower risk of chronic health conditions later in life.
Southwest School Corporation is proud to support students by offering healthy, balanced breakfast options each school day. A strong morning sets the foundation for a successful day of learning.
