Baker 1st Grade Weekly Update
August 14, 2026
Classroom Happenings
What a fantastic start to first grade! We have been busy learning new routines, exploring our classroom and getting to know each other! We are very excited for all of the learning that will happen within our classroom walls this year, and we appreciate all of your support!
You will receive this newsletter every Friday. It will contain important information from both 1st grade as well as school wide updates.
Starting today your child will be bringing home a green "Take Home" folder. This folder contains optional monthly homework, as well as a sight word practice sheet and a phonics take home sheet. The phonics sheet directly aligns with our in class phonics instruction, and gives you practical ways to support at home. This folder also serves as a communication tool between you and your child's teacher- any notes or comments on behavior that needs addressed will be in this folder. A smiley face or stamp means it was a great day!
Please see the section below for a few reminders!
Reminders:
If possible, please send in a pair of over the ear headphones with your child to use during our Chromebook time this year. These headphones will stay at school and will be returned at the end of the school year. This will ensure that we can use our Chromebooks for learning activities. Thank you!
We love celebrating birthdays in 1st grade but we do have a few reminders! We cannot allow birthday treats to be given out during class. If you would like to send something with your student it needs to be something store bought and sealed that they can send home with the class at the end of the day (examples include goldfish packs, fruit snacks or little goody bags). Thank you for your support!
Important Dates
Library Day is every Monday, starting next week!
Staff Development Day (No School) - September 4th
School Holiday- September 7th
This year we are using this school wide Behavior Accountability System! The students will become very familiar with each of the rules, and will be able to implement them throughout the school day. We will practice daily, but feel free to practice at home as well! Thank you for your support.
