A Note from the PCHS Admin Team
PCHS Community,
Parents of current 10th and 11th graders, if your student has a 3.6 GPA or higher, keep your eyes out for an email next week inviting your student to apply for National Honor Society! We are proud of this group's contributions to our school, district, and community, and look forward to bringing in the next cohort of leaders!
We wish everyone a weekend of rest and quality time spent with those you love.
Enjoy the long weekend, Pirates!
Mrs. McBride & Mr. McMurray
Public Service Announcement from Deputy Gwinn
Please read this public service announcement for parents who drop off and pick up their student(s). Thanks!
Parking Lot Resurfacing On Deck
Starting the week of April 21, the southeast (staff lot) and northeast (athletic lot) parking lots will be closed for resurfacing. Thank you for your flexibility while these improvements are made and for being prepared to have a few more cars in the mix in the southwest and northwest (stadium) lots!
"Water Wars" - A Note on Safety & Awareness
In recent years, a new high school tradition has emerged across the country known as "Water Wars." This unofficial game, often played by upperclassmen during the final weeks leading up to graduation, involves using water guns in a competitive, team-based format. While it can be a fun and spirited activity among students, we want to be clear that this is not a school-sponsored event.
We recognize the tradition’s popularity and hope that, if students choose to participate, it remains lighthearted and safe. However, we also want to stress the importance of exercising good judgment. What may seem like harmless fun to students can be perceived quite differently by others in the community.
We’ve been in communication with Chief Garrison of the Pinckney Police Department, who shared a reminder that the use of water guns—especially those that resemble real firearms—can cause alarm and lead to police involvement. Just this week, a neighboring department responded to a report of a juvenile with a gun, only to discover it was a student carrying a water pistol tucked in their waistband. Understandably, these situations can quickly become serious.
Chief Garrison emphasized that while the police are supportive of fun, they must prioritize public safety. If calls come in about suspicious individuals or students appearing to carry weapons, officers may need to respond and potentially take enforcement action to address concerns.
Please take a moment to talk with your student about Water Wars, whether they’re participating, and how to make smart, respectful choices. We appreciate your partnership in helping keep our school and community safe.
Spring NWEA Assessments
Students will take the final round of NWEA assessments for the year over the next 2 weeks:
- Tuesday, April 22: ELA
- Tuesday, April 29: Math
Seniors who have already met their growth goal or achieved above the 60th percentile for the year are exempt from the test(s)! We will have an alternative plan for these impressive Seniors during the 90-minute testing window each Tuesday.
Our aim this year is for at least 80% of our students to meet their growth goals in ELA and Math and/or to achieve at least the 60th percentile. We look forward to celebrating our students' growth and learning from the data to close out the year strong instructionally.

This Week's Positivity Project Focus
With no school on Friday, we do not have Seminar which means we do not have a new Positivity Project trait focus this week.
Last week's Positivity Project focus was Other People Matter - Identifying & Appreciating the Good in Others. Check out the P2 weekly family letter on identifying and appreciating the good in others which includes tools to practice and encourage this character trait at home.
PCHS PTO Happenings
The PTO is looking for donations of gift cards (in the amount of $10-$15) to spoil our wonderful High School teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, the week of May 6. Please turn the gift cards into the office by April 28. Thank you!
THANK YOU for the mint and gum donations which served as great treats during breaks on testing days.
On deck:
- Preparing for May 5-9 Teacher Appreciation Week activities! We're looking forward to providing our staff a coffee truck on Friday, gift card drawings across the week (or month depending on contributions!), and a catered lunch early in the week.
- May 15: Stuff Your Stanley Fundraiser at NautiMi!
Review the April PTO meeting minutes here, and consider joining us for the next meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6pm in the Pirate Union.
PCHS Student & Staff Member of the Week
We recognize a student and staff member each week, nominated by the school community based on how fellow Pirates are exemplifying Positivity Project traits and identified by our Leadership & Link Crew class. Our Student of the Week is also recognized as a part of the Livingston Daily's spotlight, published digitally on Fridays and in print on Sundays.
Caelynn Short
Caelynn is a wonderful young woman who exemplifies the Positivity Project traits of kindness, love, humor, and zest in all she does. She is an extremely hard worker who strives for excellence every day and approaches each class with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to learn. Caelynn is an excellent role model and a welcome addition to any classroom—always pleasant, kind, and engaging, and consistently participating with a winning smile.
Her open-mindedness, self-control, and appreciation for beauty and excellence shine through in both her interactions and her academic work—especially her outstanding attention to detail and creativity. Caelynn’s positivity, compassion, and dedication make her a standout among her peers, and we’re proud to celebrate her this week.
Mrs. Kim Maas
Kim Maas, one of our incredible special education aides, is a shining example of compassion and commitment. In her role, she supports some of our most vulnerable students, helping them build independence while providing the care and guidance they need to succeed. Her leadership, kindness, and tireless teamwork make a daily impact on our school community. We’re so grateful for the love and dedication Kim brings to her work every single day.
What We Did in Seminar This Week
No Seminar this week due to no school on Friday.
On Fridays, students spend an hour in what we call Seminar. The purpose of Seminar is to ensure every student has at least one go-to adult mentor at PCHS focused on their well-being, academic success, and connection to a healthy school climate.

Attendance, Earning Credits, & Mr. Mac's Academy
At PCHS, if a student exceeds 10 absences in a semester in a course, they must make up the time missed in order to earn the credit for that course on their transcript - a must for graduation from high school! It is very important to be at school consistently to be successful academically. Please pay close attention to your student's attendance detail in MiStar and proactively support them to stay within that 10 absence maximum per semester. If a student has a hold on their credit due to absences, it will read as an "H" on their transcript.
Mr. McMurray, our Assistant Principal, offers "Mr. Mac's Academy" on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:30-4:30pm. This is a consistent opportunity to make-up hours due to excessive absences. To attend Mr. Mac's Academy, a student must sign up in advance at the front desk of the Main Office with Mrs. Lasure.
