West Tualatin View Elementary School and FLEX Online Elementary School
Principal's Message
Dear FLEX Online Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! FLEX Online Elementary school will be located at West TV Elementary school this year.
This is my 8th year as principal at West TV. Prior to serving as principal at West TV, I served as principal at Errol Hassell Elementary School in the Beaverton School District and as assistant principal at Meadow Park Middle School in the Beaverton School District.
I’ve lived in Beaverton for 26 years and I’m a native Oregonian - born and raised in Corvallis. My parents met in college while attending OSU and just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this month. My two sisters and I also graduated from OSU - go Beavs! Before coming to work in the Beaverton School District as an administrator, I was a teacher in the Portland School District.
When I’m not working at the school, I enjoy reading and being active - each week I spend several evenings at the gym doing Zumba classes - my favorite classes to take! I have one child, my 33 year-old daughter Rachel, who graduated from Westview High School in 2011 and now resides in Los Angeles, California. She is my everything and I visit her as often as I can.
This year I will be the principal for both West TV Elementary and FLEX Online Elementary. FLEX Online elementary staff will be at West TV supporting FLEX students online. And some of our West TV staff will also be supporting FLEX students online (below is a list of all staff supporting West TV and all staff supporting FLEX). FLEX students will come to West TV on Friday afternoons for a couple of hours to have in-person time with their teachers and with the Specials staff. FLEX students will be invited to participate in the All Star Dash fundraising event and FLEX families will be invited to attend all evening events throughout the year and the Back-to-School picnic/Meet the Teacher event before school begins!
Back-To-School Picnic/Meet The Teacher Event
FLEX families can meet the FLEX teachers and visit their classrooms at the Meet The Teacher Event on Thursday, August 20th from 5:30pm to 6:00pm- then join the picnic outside from 6:00pm to 7:00pm! Dinner is provided free to all families.
Workbooks and Devices
FLEX Online elementary families will be able to pick up workbooks and devices on Thursday, August 20th during regular office hours (7:30am to 3:30pm). If you are unable to come Thursday, August 20th, you can pick them up the following Monday, August 24th between 8:00am and 11:00am.
If you already have been issued a device last year and only need workbooks, you can pick the workbooks up in the evening on August 20th during the Back-to-School picnic/Meet the Teacher event between 5:30pm and 6:00pm.
We look forward to welcoming the FLEX Online Elementary staff, students and families to West TV!
Scarlet Valentine
Principal

PTC (Parent Teacher Club)
The PTC (Parent Teacher Club) is comprised of parents/guardians who volunteer their time to organize opportunities for families to connect and also fundraise for programs and extra curricular activities for students and to provide support for the needs of teachers and the school. The PTC Board meets once each month in the morning and all parents/guardians are welcome to attend the meetings. PTC information will be emailed to you every week throughout the school year on Mondays in the "Monday Minute".
Please consider donating your time, energy, and ideas. There are currently several positions open and these programs can’t be provided without volunteer support. Go to the PTC Website to see a list of open positions.
West TV/FLEX All Star News, PTC Newsletter & Beaverton School District News
In an effort to reduce the amount of paper used for communication, most of the information shared by the school, the PTC, and District will be through email and the school and district websites.
The school newsletter (All Star News) and PTC Newsletter (Monday Minute) are emailed to you. Emails will include school and PTC flyers, community flyers, and other helpful resources and information.
School Calendar
The school events calendar can be found on ParentSquare and also on the West TV school calendar. This calendar has our most current events and is updated on a regular basis.
Volunteering
At West TV there are many activities and programs that you can support by volunteering. To learn more about volunteer opportunities all parents/guardians are invited to come to a Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, September 8th (the orientation will be offered in the morning 8:30-9:30am in the cafeteria and the same orientation will be repeated in the evening at 7:00-8:00pm in the cafeteria). Our wonderful PTC Volunteer Coordinators will share information and answer questions.
A background check is required for all volunteers for all Beaverton schools. Please visit the District website and click on Community and Volunteer.
In order to watch events like the All Star Dash school fundraiser (Thursday, October 8th), be sure to complete the BSD Background Check. It can take several weeks to get on the approved volunteer list at the beginning of the year, so please complete the background check as soon as possible.
All volunteers must be registered in our volunteer management system and complete a criminal background check.
For more back-to-school information, visit the district’s website.

A Message from our School Nurse
If your child has a medication to be stored in the school health room, a parent or guardian must drop it off at the school office (please do not send it to school with your child). The medication must be in the original packaging/prescription bottle with your child's name on it.
A medication authorization form MUST be completed, signed by a parent or guardian, and brought to the school office in all medication situations. Non-prescription medication (e.g., cough drops, aspirin) also must have a medication form filled out and signed by a parent. Students may not self administer nor carry medication.
You can drop off medication at anytime. The office is open daily 7:30-3:30pm.

The Little Library was started by Andy Owens, who attended West TV from 1992 -1996. He decorated the Little Free Library and every week would come to West TV to clean up and reload books for children of all ages. It was a free library and children could take books, borrow books, or leave books.
Andy Owens passed away in 2017.
