Students Showcase Skills in CTE Wars
This spring, the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs held CTE Wars to test students' skills and engage in friendly competition.
In April, P-TECH OHM students were challenged with building a catapult to maximize projectile distance. The competition gave them the opportunity to hone their skills such as sketching, material selection, project management and more.
In May, the CTE Wars continued with an Emerging Technologies and Cyber Security mini hack-a-thon, a contest with Welding students to evaluate their mastery across all welding processes, a logo design challenge for Advertising Design and Multimedia Productions students, and a wiring challenge for Electricity students.

CJ Practical Testing & EMT Completers
After more than 150 hours of classroom and clinical training, three OHM BOCES Criminal Justice 2 students have completed the New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Practical Skills Examination (PSE). The PSE includes multiple stations where students must apply their training and knowledge to treat simulated patients, all while being evaluated by experienced EMS personnel.
Congratulations to Abrian Briggs (Whitesboro), Ryan Frazier (Brookfield) and Toryn Snyder (Sauquoit)! They are now eligible to take the NYS written exam, the final step in becoming certified EMTs.
With the support of members from the New York Mills and Whitesboro Police Departments, CJ 2 students also completed a series of practical examinations, demonstrating their proficiency in the Criminal Justice field. Upon passing the exam, students will earn NOCTI credentials, which are highly regarded by employers as a valuable certification of their skills and knowledge.
From Lessons to Ladders
From lessons to ladders, these dedicated individuals show that true teamwork knows no bounds!

From Classroom to Career: CTE Advertising Design/Multimedia Production Alum Spotlight
Discover how OHM BOCES programs help students turn their passions into careers! Kayla Tabor, an alum of the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison (OHM) BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advertising Design/Multimedia Production program, shares how the skills and experiences she gained at the OHM BOCES prepared her for success in her current role as a graphic designer at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. Her achievements underscore the program’s effectiveness in equipping students with the skills needed for rewarding careers in a variety of technical fields.
The Career and Technical Education Center
The Career and Technical Education Center programs focus on preparing students for employment, careers or post-secondary education through the development of technical and 21st-century skills. Working with state-of-the-art equipment, students apply theory and knowledge to a wide range of real life work assignments in shops and laboratories. In addition to technical skills, students learn critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, positive employment attitudes, job seeking skills, familiarization with related career opportunities and college readiness.
