Stronger Bonds, Fewer Screens
📱 Helping Our Children by Putting Devices Down
As parents, we are our children’s first and most important teachers. One of the greatest gifts we can give them is our full attention.
Why limiting our own device use matters:
-
Children learn from what they see. When we put phones or tablets away during family time, meals, or bedtime, we model healthy balance.
-
Kids notice when our focus is divided. Eye contact, conversation, and playtime build stronger connections than a screen ever can.
How devices affect young children:
-
Too much screen time can shorten attention spans and make it harder for students to stay engaged in class.
-
Constant stimulation from screens can lead to restlessness, irritability, and difficulty managing emotions.
-
Replacing screen time with reading, imaginative play, or outdoor activity strengthens focus, problem-solving, and social skills.
Practical tips for families:
-
Create “device-free zones” (dinner table, car rides, bedrooms).
-
Set a family screen schedule so everyone has the same expectations.
-
Replace screen time with connection time—play a board game, take a walk, read a story together.
-
Be a role model—if kids see us put our phones down, they’re more likely to do the same.
Together, we can nurture children who are attentive, curious, and ready to learn.

DEVELOPING LEADERS AT LSRO
Weekly I Will Statements
During morning announcements, we will focus on one LifeLeader Attribute each week and learn what we need to do to develop each attribute so that we can become effective leaders in our school and in our community. We encourage students and families to memorize these statements together and talk about how the attribute is exhibited at home, school and work. We will share the I Will statement in the weekly newsletter and on our campus Facebook page. We look forward to hearing how students are exhibiting the attributes at school and home. Click here to view all 15 LifeLeader attributes.
LifeLeader School Rules - Growing Leaders of Character
LifeLeader School Rules - Growing Leaders of Character
During the first six weeks of school, we’re introducing our LifeLeader School Rules to help students grow as leaders of strong character. Every two weeks, we’ll focus on one of the three school rules, reinforcing positive behaviors that support our mission.
We invite you to partner with us by asking your child how they are demonstrating these school rules both at school and at home.
Click here to view the teacher guide with examples of behaviors that align with each rule
