Springdale K8 Community Memo
Weekly Memo: January 16, 2024
Winter Weather
Wow, what a cold weekend! I hope the weather didn't cause you too much hardship or frustration. I enjoyed cozying up by the fire, playing card games, and watching a movie with the family.
I couldn't help being drawn outside to do a little stargazing. If one can bear the cold, the clear night skies of winter are fantastic to observe. The constellations seem to pop in the sky. My family enjoyed finding Leo, Orion, Ursa Major with the big dipper, and Jupiter shining ultra bright. Our highlight was seeing a meteor shoot across the sky.
I encourage you to get outside and enjoy a bit of our winter. Here are a few of my favorite winter activities:
- Downhill and backcountry skiing.
- Hiking or snowshoeing.
- Building a fire to make a cup of cocoa.
- Finding and identifying animal tracks.
- Digging a snow cave.
- Watching the stars.
- Sledding or tubing.
- Having a snowball fight…off campus, of course!
This Friday is a regular school day!
K-5 Charger of the Month Assembly
Character Trait of the Month: Perseverance
This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up. How might you practice Perseverance as a family this month? Perseverance is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
Please help your kids dress to have fun outside!
Each day our students have outside recess time before school, mid morning, at lunch and mid afternoon. These are short little breaks to provide students with some physical activity to help release energy and reduce stress. Please be sure to send students to school with coats, gloves and hats during our winter weather.
We move recess inside when the weather is a steady rain or a temperature below 20 degrees.
Friday School, on 01.19.24
I hope everyone enjoyed their day off yesterday as we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We will still a full 4-day school week this week with school on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
All Fridays that follow a Monday holiday will be a normal school day!
