A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Family,

We are nearing the end and the end of the year always brings high emotions, lots of action and BUSY students, staff and families. We try to make the end of the year as fun and exciting for the students as they have worked so hard this year, as have the teachers and staff. There is a lot to plan and do and we always try our best. We hope to have the most enjoyable and exciting ending to the 2024-2025 school year!

Thank you for your support, as always,

Michelle

WE DO ASK THAT ALL CARS LEAVE THE PARKING LOT IN ONE SINGLE LINE TO THE ROAD AND THAT CHILDREN ARE SEATED AND BUCKLED IN CARS WHEN THEY DEPART.

Here are the protocols for morning and afternoon bike riding:

FOR STUDENTS

1. Students must WALK their bikes across the crosswalk and down the path INSIDE the white line.

2. Students should ride with the traffic and follow all safety rules.

3. Students CAN arrive a few minutes before 8:05 and stand with their bikes until an adult arrives to avoid some of the incoming traffic.

FOR PARENTS

1. Parents must walk their bikes into the school with their child. Parents are encouraged to walk their bikes out of the school property to support us in modeling for the students who are entering at the same time.

2. If a parent has a question about a police officer's instructions, please contact the police department.

3. As stated in the handbook, we encourage all children in grades K-2 to be escorted by an adult.

4. Parents should drop off quickly and depart to allow for room for more students to arrive.

5. Parents should also ride in a single file within the white line.

Below is the information that is in our current handbook:

In view of the hazardous roads and heavy traffic leading to Rye Elementary, we encourage students in K-2 to ride their bikes to school with a parent escort. Due to safety concerns, bikes are not allowed from December 1st through March 1 or with principal discretion. Bike rules are outlined below:

  • Bikers will enter/exit the school yard using the Lang’s Field entrance

  • Once off the main road, students should ride their bike (THIS IS NOW WALK) single file staying on the Lang Field/Playground side of the road beginning at Sagamore Road and then dismount and walk their bike, indicated by the sign.

  • Park bicycles in the bicycle racks

    • The Town of Rye requires bicyclists to ride single file and that riders under the age of 16 wear a safety helmet on all Town of Rye roads.

  • When possible, a Rye Police officer will be at the cross walk during the arrival and dismissal times.

  • Bicycle privileges may be suspended for failure to observe the rules on school grounds.

  • As with any other dismissal, we ask that you send a note to the office stating your approval for your child to ride his/her bike to school. If your child plans to ride every day, you may write one note and then let us know if that plan changes.

  • Please speak with your child about the high volume of traffic during the arrival and dismissal times. We appreciate your cooperation with keeping the children of Rye Elementary School safe.

Welcome Justin Svirsky to Grade 4 Welcome Justin Svirsky to Grade 4

Hello RES Community,

I hope this message finds you well! My name is Justin Svirsky, and I'm excited to be

returning to RES as a fourth grade teacher. Some of you may remember me from my

time here in 2022-23 as a building-based substitute, which was incredibly valuable as I

pursued my graduate degree in education. The support I received from everyone at

RES was exceptional, and I am thrilled to be rejoining such a supportive team.

I come to Rye with a background in graphic design and a master's degree in elementary

education, along with experience teaching kindergarten through fifth grade. It's a joy for

me to embark on this new journey as a fourth grade teacher in this vibrant and caring

school community.

My family and I live on the New Hampshire Seacoast with our two daughters and our

beloved labradoodle, Sawyer. We cherish our time by the water, whether it's relaxing on

the beach, swimming, or simply enjoying the salty breeze. During the winter months you

will find us at some New England ski resort riding and skiing. I'm excited to share my

love for nature and curiosity about the world with my students.

As an educator, I believe in creating a classroom where students feel safe to take

cognitive risks, learn from mistakes, and explore new ideas. My goal is to foster

curiosity, support individual growth, and build a strong sense of community among my

students. I am dedicated to ensuring that every student feels recognized, valued, and

motivated to achieve their fullest potential, both academically and personally.

I am genuinely looking forward to the upcoming school year and the opportunity to

positively contribute to your community.

Warm regards,

Justin Svirsky

All grade levels will be given a colored bandana, it would be great if your child could wear a t-shirt that matches the color of the bandana to school that day.

The colors are as follows:

Kindergarten = yellow, first grade = red, second grade = blue, third grade = green, and fourth grade = black.

Other things to consider for your child for Field Day are: apply sunscreen and or bug spray at home before school, wear sneakers, pack DRY CLOTHES, and a water bottle with the student's name on it. This is a regular school day. School lunch will be offered or your child can bring home lunch. We will eat outside picnic style.

Art Outside Art Outside

This week Pre-K artists had fun painting with watercolors in the pollinator garden, using nature’s colors and textures to inspire their creativity. Second graders explored contrast by using shadows and figurines to create playful artworks with positive and negative space.

French Assembly French Assembly

Students in grades K–4 had the exciting opportunity to showcase their French learning during our World Language French Concert, led by Madame Piper! Through songs, movement, and spoken lines, they demonstrated their understanding of key vocabulary and phrases, including greetings, colors, numbers, fruit, weather, and more. Each grade level brought energy and enthusiasm to the stage, sharing what they’ve learned in a fun and memorable way. The concert was a joyful celebration of language, culture, and the hard work our students have put into their French studies this year! Magnifique!

Lunch in Our Caf

We are so thankful for those who have joined us for lunch this year! We have so many events for family members in the next few weeks and no new requests for lunch so we are going to stop all extra adults for lunch and start to wind down the school year. We will start again next fall!
