STURGIS BROWN HIGH SCHOOL

MEDIA RELEASE & SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Parents and Staff,
Today, we had a non-credible social media threat that was investigated by law enforcement. Linked you will find the joint press release between law enforcement and Meade 46-1. The press release will also be on our social media pages. Included below is additional school safety information.
We take all potential threats seriously and work with law enforcement to investigate these quickly and thoroughly. Our local law enforcement and their cooperation with area agencies and schools was an example of great team work and focus to make sure students and staff are safe.
Unfortunately, these events throughout the country continue to rise and we take them seriously to ensure safety for everyone. It is important to remember that if a post like this occurs, the first thing to do is REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY to law enforcement and school officials and do not share or like or spread on social media, as this makes it more difficult to investigate.
I also want to take a moment for parents to understand what Meade School District does when a situation such as this arises. We follow training by the national foundation I Love u Guys. This is a new communication and protocols for different situations we have just started to implement. Today, we used SECURE setting. This has schools secure the outside of their buildings and do not allow entry or exit while we assess/investigate a situation. It is important to understand the our regular school day is occurring inside the buildings, but due to the situation we are a closed campus/schools. Students are safe inside the building as we await information from law enforcement. During this time we do not check students out or allow students to leave until we know everything is safe. This procedure limits who is on campus ensures a safer setting. We appreciate parents today asking questions and waiting for more information from the district.
I have included a link on our I love u Guys communication protocols and website. The posters are posted throughout the schools. Safety Communication/Protocol AND I Love u Guys website
Thank you for being patient and understanding how our staff works with law enforcement to keep our schools safe. I hope this additional information is useful in how Meade 46-1 addresses these issues.
Best Regards,
Wayne Wormstadt
Superintendent

2025 LEGISLATIVE PAGE APPLICATION
2025 Page Program Application and Information
Each legislative session, high school students from across South Dakota have an opportunity for a firsthand look at the legislative process by serving as pages for the South Dakota Legislature. Pages are appointed to serve in the House of Representatives or the Senate for four to nine days during one of the five term periods.
The page program is a competitive program, so early application is encouraged. The preferred deadline is October 4, 2024 and the final deadline is October 18, 2024.
Application is made through a sponsoring legislator or legislator-elect. Talk to a legislator or legislator-elect and ask for the privilege of them sponsoring you. Not sure who to approach as a sponsor? Any current legislator or legislator-elect can sponsor a page. Click on Find My Legislators to find the legislators in your district; however, a sponsoring legislator may be from any South Dakota district. Find My Legislators
The President Pro Tempore of the Senate selects the pages who will serve in the Senate. The Speaker of the House of Representatives selects the pages who will serve in the House. In early December, you will be notified by the Page Advisor regarding the disposition of your application.
If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact the Legislative Research Council by email or at 605-773-3251, or the Legislative Page Advisor at 605-773-5257.
