Welcome to the 23-24 School Year!

Good morning,

We are days away from the start of the new school year. Staff has been in this week to get everything ready for our students. We are excited to see everyone again and can't wait to meet the Class of 2027. Our 9th grade orientation was held on August 22nd, led by our amazing Link Crew students. Our freshmen were led through a series of activities and toured the building. Many returned that evening to walk their schedule and get their new chromebook. Those 9th graders and students new to the district who still need their chromebook can go to the Viking Genius Bar between the hours of 7:30am-11am or 12:30-2:30 M-F. Students must have a copy of the QR code in order to receive a chromebook.

All students should be in their homeroom, period 0, by 7:50 on August 28th. We will follow a bell schedule that is posted later in this newsletter for the first week of school. After Labor Day will only have homeroom one time a month. Students will be notified in advance of that change.

Welcome to the 23-24 school year!

Dr. Cynthia Moss, Lead Principal

Mrs. Stefanie Baker, White House Principal

Mr. Sean Berk, Red House Principal

Mr. Ryan Stanson-Marsh, Blue House Principal

Student Drop Off

This year the parent drop-off and pick up will occur in the student parking lot and in the faculty parking lot. Please do NOT drop off your student in any other area of campus. Please drop off your student between 7:20-7:40 am. Students will be able to enter the building to eat breakfast beginning at 7:15. Those not eating breakfast will be asked to remain outside until 7:40am. If there is inclement weather they will be permitted in the lobbies earlier. Students may only enter the building at the gym lobby or the cafeteria lobby before school begins.

Student Lot Drop Off

In order to avoid traffic delays, we are asking that you enter campus from Wartman Road and proceed towards Gravel Pike to the student parking lot. There will be no left hand turns from High School Drive into the parking lot.Turn right off of High School Drive to enter the lot and then immediately bear to the right to proceed to the steps by the gymnasium. Students may exit the cars at the bottom of the steps. After dropping off the student cars must turn left and proceed around the lot and will exit on Trappe Road.

Agents will be in the lot to assist with traffic patterns.

Faculty Lot Drop-Off

If you enter campus from Kagey Road, please use the faculty parking lot to drop off your student. You can also turn right onto Campus Drive if you enter from Wartman Road, however you will need to make a left turn into the parking lot. Agents and staff are in the drop-off areas. to assist.

Drop-Off after 8am but before 2 pm

If you are dropping off a student after the school day begins you may drop them off in the main office circle as the student will need to enter the building through these doors.

We ask for your patience and cooperation as we try to get over 1000 cars in addition to all of the buses onto campus in a very short period of time.

Bell Schedule for the First Week of School

All students are to report to their assigned homeroom the first week of school and follow the schedule posted above. Please note that students should be in their assigned homeroom by 7:50am. After the first day of school, when there is no tech school, AM tech students will report directly to the tech buses in the bus loop by 7:45am instead of going to homeroom.

Student IDs

All students are required to wear their student ID while in our building. All students who were in the PV district last year should wear their ID beginning August 28th. Students who are new to the district will need to come to the main office to receive a temporary ID. New IDs will be issued to students following the two picture days in early September. At that time all students will also receive a new lanyard.

Please remind your students that wearing their ID is not optional. We have approximately 2000 people in this building and need to be able to quickly identify students and staff.

Summer Reading

Perkiomen Valley School District believes it is critical for students to foster positive reading habits in order to develop as lifelong learners. The district's summer reading program encourages students to read high-interest, self-selected texts. After all, summer reading is a great opportunity for each student to explore personal interests, various genres, topics he/she wants to know more about while discovering his/her own "just right" books. As an added bonus, reading high-interest materials prepares students for the demands of college and career-reading. Research strongly suggests that reading skills improve with practice and weaken when not exercised. So why have a summer reading program? The program exists to inspire a lifelong love of reading and to maintain and sharpen one's reading and thinking skills.

Schedules

Student schedules will be available to be viewed on the Home Access Center beginning Wednesday, August 9th at noon. The building schedule and student schedules were both built based on the requests made last school year. When it was impossible to give a student their first elective choice, one of alternate choices was substituted. While we attempt to accommodate each and every schedule request, sometimes it is not possible to give students exactly what was requested. Schedule changes will only be made if there is an error or if a student is not scheduled for the required 6 credits at all times. The deadline to make changes in requested courses was March 30th and we built the master schedule for the high school based on these choices.

Schedule changes are only made in extreme cases. All changes to schedules must go through your student’s counselor.
