Application Process
It is time for Student Government elections! The students at Heards Ferry Elementary will have an opportunity to apply to run for office as part of our Student Government. Student Government representatives should be willing to listen, be accountable, honest, and dependable. Students interested in applying to run will submit a Letter of Intent essay on the Letter of Intent sheet to Ms. Murdock and ask a teacher to complete a recommendation on the below Teacher Recommendation sheet.
In the Letter of Intent Essay, students will describe why and how they would be a valuable candidate. The essay will then be scored completely anonymously using the Letter of Intent rubric attached. Students will write their Student ID number on the essay instead of their name so that it is scored completely anonymously. Students will turn in their Letter of Intent essay stapled to their rubric to the turn-in box right outside Ms. Murdock's door (room 362). If you are absent that day, please email the essay to Ms. Murdock at murdockk@fultonschools.org.
Students will also ask a former teacher for a recommendation using the Teacher Recommendation sheet. Students can ask any previous teacher or a Special Area teacher other than Ms. Murdock. The teacher will then complete the teacher recommendation sheet and the teacher will submit it to Ms. Murdock.
The Letter of Intent essay stapled to the rubric and the teacher recommendation submitted by the teacher are due to Ms. Murdock on Friday, September 19th. The student government committee will then meet that week to determine candidates by scoring the Letter of Intent essay anonymously using the attached rubric and adding the teacher recommendation. The top 4 scores for each position will then be selected to run as a candidate.
NOTE: Students will not be permitted to bring a poster or handouts of any sort. Any student hanging a poster or distributing anything to campaign will be disqualified.
Please review the Roles and Responsibilities sheet to find the responsibilities of each position.
