The Hive
August 16th, 2025
Dear Hornet Parents,
As we continue through February, our campus remains focused on supporting student growth, building strong learning habits, and maintaining meaningful partnerships with our families. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference. Monitoring grades, encouraging attendance, and reinforcing expectations at home all contribute to your child’s success, and we sincerely appreciate your support.
Celebrating Black History Month
February is a time to recognize and honor the achievements, contributions, and influence of African Americans throughout our nation’s history and within our communities. Throughout the month, students will engage in activities and lessons that highlight important historical figures, cultural contributions, and themes of leadership, resilience, and progress. These learning experiences help foster respect, understanding, and appreciation for the diversity that strengthens our school community.
We look forward to continuing to celebrate this important month together while reinforcing a welcoming and inclusive environment for every student.
Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. When students attend school regularly and arrive on time, they are better able to stay engaged in learning, maintain progress in their classes, and build positive relationships with peers and teachers. Thank you for helping us reinforce the importance of daily attendance and punctuality.
Important Reminders for Families
- Students should arrive on time each morning so they do not miss important instructional time.
- Students are required to wear their school ID each day for safety and identification purposes.
- Students in grades K through 8 must be accompanied by an adult to attend school athletic events.
- Cell phones and earbuds should remain put away during the instructional day unless permitted by staff.
Ways to Support Your Student at Home
Families play a powerful role in helping students stay motivated and successful. You can support your child by:
- Checking Skyward regularly to review grades, assignments, and progress
- Talking with your child each day about school, goals, and challenges
- Establishing consistent routines for sleep, organization, and technology use
- Encouraging your child to read at home for at least 15 to 20 minutes daily
- Reviewing school expectations together to reinforce responsibility and respect
- Celebrating accomplishments and growth to keep motivation strong
- Reaching out to teachers or staff whenever questions or concerns arise
Your partnership helps students feel confident, supported, and prepared for success. Thank you for being an essential part of the Alice Johnson Jr. High community. We look forward to continuing to work together to support every Hornet.

Our campus will begin testing EB students for TELPAS on MARCH. It is important that students attend school in order to take their test. A reminder that this is a state requirement for ALL EB students.
We invite all students to participate in our Black History Month Celebrations.
As always, if students are dressing up, they must still adhere to the students dress code policy.
Beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, we will start enforcing student ID requirements.
We want to ensure that all parents and students are aware of our campus tardy policy.
Slight changes have been made the to the bell schedule.
The goals of this revision are to (1) reduce hallway congestion during transitions and (2) streamline the day by reducing the total number of bells. The updated bell schedule is attached below.
Student Arrival and Dismissal
ENTRANCE
Parents are not allowed to walk students to their class.
Doors will open at 8:00 am.
Car-riders/walkers will enter through the bus ramp doors.
CAR RIDERS
There will be TWO lanes open for the car rider line.
Please DO NOT drop off students prior to the drop-off zone.
Staff members will direct traffic and guide vehicles to the designated drop off/pick up zones.
To ensure our students are safe, please DO NOT drop off or pick up students from the staff parking lot. We do not want our students crossing the walkway in front of moving vehicles.
WALKERS
Walkers will enter/exit through the bus ramp doors.

Student Hornet Policies
Attention Parents:
We want to ensure that all students are aware of our campus policies and expectations. We have attached the student hornet policies for you to review with your children.
Please be sure to take a look at the dress code, as we have students that have been out of dress code.
English: Hornet Policies
Spanish: Las Políticas De Los Hornets
We are aware that our hornet students want to show their pride at athletic events and we want them to attend as many as possible!
As per the new Channelview Athletic Regulations, students attending games on campus- both Elementary & Middle School must be accompanied by a supervising adult and remain seated with them at all times.
We understand that this is different from previous year, but it is important that we communicate this with you all.
We hope that with your collaboration we can inform all of our students of this new policy!
