RIDDLE/JOKE OF THE WEEK
Last Week's Answers:
1. Why are ghosts so bad at telling lies? -- You can see right through them.
2. Why didn't the skeleton want to go to school? -- His heart wasn't in it!
This week:
1. Why did the skeleton go to the party alone?
2. What kind of music do mummies listen to?
MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Lights Out!
Gwen uses instructions to control three different-coloured lights. The instructions can turn each light on or off, and also wait for a specific amount of time before moving on to the next instruction. Gwen writes the following set of instructions and has them run 10 times in a row.
turn red light on wait (3sec)
turn blue light on turn green light on wait (5sec)
turn green light off wait (2sec)
turn green light on turn red light off wait (2sec)
turn green light off turn blue light off
(a) How long does it take for the instructions to run completely 10 times from start to finish? Assume that it doesn’t take any time at all to turn the lights on and off.
(b) Which lights are on exactly 33 seconds after the instructions start?
Last Week's Answer:
(i) 2.8 + 3.5 = 6.3
(ii) 3.7 + 4.4 = 8.1
(iii) 6.2 − 5.2 = 1.0
(iv) 7.9 − 1.3 = 6 6 OR 7.9 − 6.3 = 1 6
Send your answers to Mr. Garas – tgaras@billericak12.com – Show your work! We will have a drawing on Friday this week for a Dunkin gift card and the highly coveted math certificate!!
