MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
Happy Black History Month! This month we honor and celebrate contributions of Black Americans as well as those of our students and staff. In 1926, Carter G. Woodson laid the groundwork for Black History Month by establishing the first Negro History Week, an event dedicated to celebrating the history, politics, and culture of Black people. Black history is American history. To learn more visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Don’t miss the Winter Club Fair next week on Wednesday, February 11th at 4:00pm in the cafeteria. Club members will have booths set up for you to come by, ask questions and sign up to join one or more clubs.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dr. Z
SCHOOL INFORMATION
NEW: Parent Volunteers Needed
We need adult volunteers to support our 11th grade students while they take the SAT on Wednesday, March 4th.
Note: Please no parents of 11th-grade students, and you must be cleared to be a PPS volunteer: https://www.pps.net/volunteer/volunteer/volunteering-with-pps
A final volunteer list is needed at least two weeks before March 4th, and there will be an online training on February 27th.
Deadline to Order a Yearbook
If your student wants a 2025-26 yearbook, NOW is the time to order one! Books will not be sold at the end of the year, and Wednesday, February 25th is the last day to order one. They can be purchased with a credit card here or with cash from the bookkeeper. The price is $65, or $45 for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Once again you cannot buy a yearbook after February 25th.
Franklin Post Issue #4 is Out!
Check classrooms, mailboxes, and local businesses near you, and head to fhspost.com to read the issue. This issue covers everything from education in the juvenile justice system, to teacher spending on classroom supplies, to local organizations supporting immigrants, to prediction markets, to local restaurants, to teen dating --- and much more!
Immunization Reminder from Nurse Katie
This is a friendly reminder that vaccines (or signed exemptions) are required for your student to be in school! Exclusion date is Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. Winter break is coming up and that is a great time to call your students' doctors and get them in for a visit if they are due. Our Student Based Health Center is a great resource as well. I will be reaching out in the next couple of weeks to families who are in need of immunizations. Feel free to reach out to me (ksimeon@pps.net) if you have any questions or concerns!
SENIOR CORNER
NEW: Senior Class Picture
The Class of 2026 senior class picture is coming up! All seniors please report to the grassy hill next to the gym on Thursday, February 19th at 9:55am, 30 minutes before the end of 6th period. There will be a VOIP announcement excusing seniors. So be in class! Souza will excuse the senior class to lunch after the photo is taken.
Senior Portraits for the Yearbook
Senior Portraits are due on Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14th!
Submitting a portrait is optional. If a portrait is not submitted then we will use the photo taken at registration. If you did not take a photo at registration then we will not have a photo for you. Use this form also to submit a portrait and/or a senior quote. You can submit just a quote or just a photo or submit both.
Please read the photo and quote requirements closely in the Google Form.
Commencement Ticket Survey
PPS is excited to announce that this year’s graduation ceremonies will be held at Portland State University’s Viking Pavilion! This venue offers indoor seating for ticketed guests and convenient, affordable parking.
Due to limited capacity, each Franklin High School graduate is guaranteed five (5) guest tickets. We understand that some families may need fewer tickets while others may wish to request more. To help us assess ticket availability, we ask that you complete this ticket request survey by Friday, February 20th. Your response will provide essential information to determine whether additional tickets can be distributed.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: Diploma Submission Form
Seniors, if you would like something other than your legal name (from Synergy) on your diploma, NOW is the time to let us know! Please fill out this Diploma Submission Form before FEBRUARY 13TH.
