WAES Monthly Newsletter
September 2026
Dear Families,
Welcome to a brand new school year! As we open our doors once again, I want to express how excited we are to partner with you in making this year extraordinary for your children. Last year, our campus earned an "A" rating and we hope to continue that success this school year.
Our school success happens when we all work together, and there are so many wonderful ways for you to be involved. I warmly invite you to join our PTA, who diligently works to create memorable experiences for our students. From incentives to field trip to field day; PTA always supports us! Additionally, throughout the year, we hold monthly PTA meetings with performances, informational sessions with the counselor, musical programs, and lunch visits-just to name a few. Your presence and participation make our school the special place it is. We can't wait to see you at our upcoming events and to build another amazing year together! Let's game on, level up and unlock excellence!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rodriguez
Principal

Volunteering and more...
If you are interested in volunteering here at school or want to attend a field trip with your child, you MUST have a background check. This must be completed before you are eligible to volunteer at any Galena Park ISD campus or to chaperone any field trips. This background check is done on a yearly basis. Also, let us know what skills you have and your availability by completing the form below as well.
Our counselor will be hosting a meeting to talk about more about volunteering and Title 1 on September 24. We hope you can join us!

Attendance Awareness
Did you know that Woodland Acres Elementary had one of the best attendance percentages in GPISD? That's right! Our attendance average for last year was at 96.4%!!! Our goal for this year is to reach 97% or higher! This would mean that out of 167 instructional school days, a student should not miss more than 4 days in a school year. Between our PEIMS clerk Ms. Rangel, our counselor Mr. Barahona, and the campus administrators we will be monitoring closely student attendance. Please reference the calendar below to plan vacations accordingly. I am confident that by working together we can meet the goal for the year!
