Dear Fisler Families,

Our Fisler Navigators did a wonderful job honoring and remembering the events of 9/11 at our Patriots Day Assembly. It was a meaningful opportunity to remember those we lost, and honor our heroes as a community. Our students showed pride and respect, and I am grateful to our community for supporting this special day.

We have so much to look forward to in September. Currently, we are celebrating Kindness Month, we encourage our Navigators to include others, offer a helping hand, and recognize how small acts of kindness can make a difference. We are also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the voices, stories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

As a reminder, Picture Days are this Thursday and Friday. Please see the flyers below for details.

Also, please check out the PTSA section on the newsletter and save the date for our FIRST Fisler Gala on Oct. 16th! This will be a wonderful opportunity to build community, meet other families, and work together to raise funds for our school. Fundraising events like this help support field trips, playground and PE equipment, arts experiences, and so much more. Thank you for all the ways you support our students and make Fisler a welcoming place to learn and grow!

Warmly,

Caroline Llewellyn, Ed.D.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

From September 15 to October 15, we join the nation in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month—a time to recognize and honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic communities. This is a special opportunity for our students to learn about the vibrant traditions, inspiring leaders, and enduring legacies that have shaped our world.

To bring this celebration to life, our teachers will be incorporating exciting read-alouds, hands-on activities, and meaningful discussions into their lessons, giving students a chance to explore Hispanic heritage in creative and engaging ways. Additionally, our school librarian has curated a fantastic collection of books that highlight Hispanic authors, stories, and experiences. These books will be available for students to explore throughout the month.

We encourage everyone to dive into the stories, cultures, and histories that make Hispanic Heritage Month so important. Let’s celebrate together!

Here are some great stories celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month to read aloud and enjoy with your child at home:

Middle School Snacks & My School Bucks

At Nutrition Break, all middle school students (6th–8th grade) may purchase snacks from the cafeteria. While cash is accepted, cash payments take longer to process. A quicker and more convenient option is to set up an account on My School Bucks. With an account, you can add funds that your child can access at the cafeteria simply by entering their student ID number. From there, they’ll be able to purchase snacks and drinks easily. You can upload and replenish funds at any time. To simplify the process, we encourage you to use this system.

    2. Opens at 5:45. Food at 6:00.

    3. Special musical guest

    4. Local businesses and corporate sponsors with food and special offers

    5. The Movie: Toy Story 5 - starts at 7:20 PM

    6. Pizza and Hot Dogs PRE-ORDER

  2. Congratulations to the students that completed the three-day try-out for the middle school Science Olympiad team. Tryouts consisted of written tests and build events where students were evaluated on their creative engineering solutions to a variety of challenges.

  3. Endowment - F2AST created the Endowment last year to be the long-term fundraising engine for Fisler. The Endowment works when we all join in together. Our goal is for every family to join in this effort to create a better future. Read the Fisler Endowment section below.

  4. Minecraft Class – registration for our first session is on October 11. The link for the sign-up will be here … in the F2AST section of the weekly newsletter. Our Minecraft after-school classes are extremely popular, so be sure to put this date on your calendar.

  5. RaiseRight – this is a completely optional tool for you to earn money for things like Science Camp and purchasing a laptop for 3rd grade. It is a “scrip” fundraising platform. Download the app and then purchase gift cards at face value that you can use immediately to buy everything from Starbucks to Panda Express, Gas, Albertsons, Barnes & Noble, etc. Your electronic gift cards get stored in your phone’s wallet, and you can use it every time you shop. It costs you nothing, and lets you earn funds for the shopping you were going to do anyways. We have some recorded presentations on our website that explain more and show you how to get started. Learn more here: RAISE RIGHT.

  6. Have a great week - and make sure to put Movie Night on your calendar.

Endowment

Fisler Families And The Entire Fisler Community,

Fisler is the only public TK-8 school in a larger district in all of California that has a permanent Endowment - and that's not an accident. It exists because this community chose to believe that funding should never stand between our kids and what they're capable of. Last year, together, we turned that belief into reality and raised $130,000 in just a few months … and that’s just the start of an Endowment that will outlast all of us.

That's the audacious part: we're not raising money for this year. We're building something permanent. A source of strength for Fisler that compounds and grows for our kids … and the kids that come after. It only works if we build it together, and every family has a place in it.

This is what F²AST is for. We're the group built to do the long-term financial work — the Endowment, multi-year investments, new teacher grant programs and Fullerton School District’s only Science Olympiad team. We build things to last.

It's just one part of the larger Team Fisler plan. PTSA, F2AST, and the FISLER ENDOWMENT … every group on campus pulling in the same direction, toward the same future for our community and our kids.

Become a sustaining member or make a gift today. The whole story is on our Team Fisler website.

Counseling Corner

Dear Fisler Families,

Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our 9/11 assembly. It was awesome to see so many of you here supporting our school community. I was especially proud to watch our Scouts present the flags with such confidence and respect. Moments like this remind us of the importance of coming together as a community, supporting one another and showing our students that they are surrounded by people who care about them and their success.

I encourage all of our families to stay connected by joining our PTSA, following us on social media @fisler_school @filserptsa @mrsconleysel and maintain open communication with our teachers and staff. Your partnership makes a difference!

I also encourage you to regularly check in with your children about their friendships and social experiences at school. Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen when we ask open-ended questions and simply listen.

Instead of asking, "Did you have a good day?"

Try asking:

"What was the best part of your day?"

"Who did you enjoy spending time with today?"

"Did you notice anyone who seemed like they needed a friend?"

"What made you laugh today?"

"Was there anything that felt difficult or uncomfortable?"

"What is something you wish had gone differently today?"

"Is there anything happening at school that you want me to know about?"

These small conversations can help our children feel heard, supported, and connected.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Conley
