Safe Route to School
The St. Cloud Area School District and Saint Cloud Area Planning Organization (APO) are
working together to develop Safe Routes to School plans for Madison Elementary School
during the 2026-2027 school year.
Safe Routes to School, or SRTS, is a program that looks for ways to make walking, biking,
rolling, and scooting to school safer, easier, and more comfortable for students and families.
As part of the planning process, APO staff will review how students currently travel to and
from school, observe arrival and dismissal, evaluate nearby streets and crossings, and hear
directly from families and school staff.
We Want to Hear From You
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to complete a short survey about how their child
travels to and from school, what may prevent them from walking or biking, and what
improvements could help. The survey takes about 5 to 10 minutes and is available in three
languages:
English: https://bit.ly/4rBjfBv
Español: https://bit.ly/4xOtML2
Soomaali: https://bit.ly/4ABn8Kz
Your feedback will help identify priorities and recommendations for Madison's Safe
Routes to School plan.
Show Us Where You See a Problem
Do you know of a specific intersection, crossing, sidewalk, street or other location that
makes getting to school difficult or unsafe?
Use the APO’s interactive mapping tool to pinpoint the location and tell us what you have
noticed. The mapping tool is hosted on Imagine 2055, the APO’s long-range transportation
planning website. Safe Routes to School comments submitted through the map will
also help inform the plans for Madison.
Comments could include concerns about traffic speeds, difficult crossings, missing
sidewalks, visibility, winter maintenance or other issues affecting travel to school.

Even if your child does not currently walk or bike to school, we still want to hear from
you. Understanding why families choose different ways of getting to school is an important
part of identifying improvements that can benefit students and the surrounding community.
Thank you for helping us plan safer routes to school!
