Lakewood Family Newsletter

As we wrap up the month of August, we want to thank our students, families, faculty, and staff for helping us have such a great start to the school year! These first few weeks have been focused on establishing routines, building relationships, and setting high expectations for a successful year. We are proud of the great start we have had and truly appreciate your continued support and partnership. We look forward to a wonderful year ahead!
New Attendance Procedure
As part of a new attendance procedure, we ask that you please call the front office at 731-644-1600 by 8:30 a.m. if your child will be absent from school that day.
Many of you already do this, and we greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this new procedure.
IMPORTANT CHANGE: HCHS FOOTBALL GAMES
Henry County High School home football season officially kicks off Friday night, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. as the Patriots take on Giles County.
As the new season begins, Henry County High School is implementing updated procedures designed to enhance the safety, comfort, and overall experience of all Patriot fans.
- A key change for the 2026 season is that students in 8th grade and below must be accompanied by an adult to be admitted to home football games.
- Additionally, students and fans who wish to toss footballs, run, or play during the game are asked to use designated areas and avoid the end zones and track.
These procedures have been put in place to help ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone attending Patriot football games. For additional information, please contact Henry County High School at 731-642-5232.
Health Screenings
We will have our annual health screenings during the school day on Monday, September 14 (PreK, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grade).
Grades 5th and 7th will NOT participate in screenings.
In the screenings, only the following will be checked:
Vision
Hearing
Blood Pressure
Height
Weight
Color blindness - lower grades
Scoliosis - 6th graders only
Constitution Day - Thursday, September 17
Thursday, September 17 is Constitution Day! In observance, we invite all students and staff to wear red, white, and blue.
On this day, students will also participate in age-appropriate learning focused on Independence Day, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and important principles of citizenship. We look forward to using this day as a special opportunity to celebrate our country and help students learn more about the foundations of our nation.
Little Eagles Cheer Camp
Forms were sent home earlier this week. If you need an additional form sent home, please reach out to your child's teacher or the front office 7331-644-1600.
Communication App
Last year, our district is transitioned to a new communication app for all district, school, team, and classroom communication. This change will help streamline information and ensure everyone stays connected in one place.
Please download the Henry County School System app as soon as possible using the link below. If you have already downloaded the app, please take a moment to log in and make sure your notifications are turned on so you don’t miss important updates.
As a test, this family newsletter is being shared through the new app. If you have downloaded the app and did not receive this message, please let us know so we can help ensure you are properly connected.
If you need assistance logging into your account or setting up the app, our front office staff is happy to help. Please call us at 731-644-1600.
Thank you for your support as we make this transition to improve communication for our Lakewood community.

Car Rider Pick Up Procedures
To help expedite the car rider line, please review the following:
1.) To enter the car rider line, you will take the first left as you enter the parking lot. At this point, you will need to get in the appropriate lane, depending on the wing you are picking up from. We will have staff available to help direct you, if needed.
2.) LANES & WINGS
The left lane is for the following:
B & C Wing (3rd-8th) pickup
PreK pickup
The right lane is for A Wing (K-2nd) pickup.
3.) If you are picking up multiple students, make sure that your oldest student knows to go to the youngest student's designated pickup wing for dismissal. Please communicate the correct wing to the person picking up your students. To eliminate confusion, the older sibling will consistently come to this wing for pickup, even if the younger sibling is absent.
4.) Students will load vehicles on the passenger side. Please plan accordingly.
5.) For safety reasons, parents must remain in their vehicles at all times. If you have a special circumstance, please contact the office (731-644-1600) to discuss an alternative plan.
6.) Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as everyone learns our car rider dismissal procedures. We appreciate your support in ensuring the safest dismissal possible.
CAR RIDER PLACARDS - Numbers will not be the same as last year.
- Use your student placard with the car rider number.
- Car rider placards will be passed out at Meet & Greet. If you are unable to attend, a placard will be sent home with your student on the first day of school.
- If you do not have your car rider placard on the first day, or you have a new student that did not receive one yet, please display your youngest student's name and grade in the passenger window.
- Each student has a unique car rider number. When multiple students or siblings ride together, please display one car rider placard, preferably the youngest student's.
