Our library programs are treasures for so many families in our community. They help spark a love of reading, build connections, create lasting memories, and inspire curiosity. With changes in funding, the support of our community is more important than ever to keep these programs thriving for everyone.

To make these programs possible, the Danville Friends of the Library have adopted new bylaws and will now be doing business as the Danville Library Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to support the Danville-Center Township Public Library through advocacy and fundraising—helping provide programs, resources, and opportunities that enrich our community.

You can help too, in simple but meaningful ways:

  • Get a library card and use it regularly. Invite friends and family to get their own!

  • Tell your story. Share why the library matters to you—your stories help us advocate for DPL. Email csalenda@dplindiana.org to schedule a time.

  • Attend library events and support our fundraising efforts. Keep an eye on upcoming programs!

  • Follow @dplindiana on social media to stay up-to-date.

  • Donate to the Foundation. Every dollar helps—just $10/month can send a child to storytime!

"Chess Club: The Winning Move" by Rebecca Donnelly

Chess Club: The Winning Move is a novel about friendship, coming of age, and the joys of found family. When chess-loving Halima can’t find a local club, she recruits her friends Jem, Parker, and Daniel to start one of their own. Together, they navigate not just the chessboard but the ups and downs of middle school life.

Full of humor, heart, and surprises, this story shows that being great at chess, or anything in life, takes teamwork, confidence, and the power of true friendship.

Picture Book: "You Can Sit With Me" by Rachel Tawil Kenyon

Sometimes, the simplest gestures make the biggest difference. You Can Sit With Me shows how offering someone a place to sit—just as they are—can help kids feel welcomed and included. Whether it’s at a reading circle, craft table, or picnic blanket, kindness always matters.

Filled with charming, endearing characters, this story reminds young readers that one small act can brighten someone’s day and even help make the world a more loving, inclusive place.

Young Adult: "Falling Like Leaves" by Misty Wilson

Goodreads says "Gilmore Girls meets Jenny Han in this autumnal teen rom-com about a city girl stuck in a quaint small town who must confront her future and her old flame while the town prepares for an annual fall festival."

When Ellis moves from Manhattan to small-town Bramble Falls after her parents’ separation, she expects boredom—not running into Cooper, her former best friend and first kiss. Between her aunt’s autumn festival and unexpected sparks with Cooper, Ellis starts questioning where she truly belongs—and what she really wants for her future.

Arwen S., Age 10

Arwen was our August Kid Librarian! Arwen is excited to be kid librarian because, in her words, “librarians are cool.” Her favorite series is Keepers of the Lost Cities, and she’s a big fan of author Chris Colfer. When it comes to characters, she loves Red Riding Hood and can’t get enough of fantasy adventures.

When she’s not reading, Arwen enjoys writing her own book series and exploring her imagination. Her favorite part of the library? All the fun programs and activities offered that make every visit an adventure!
