Francisco's Friday Roar

We are almost there!

As we head into the final week of the school year, there’s a sense of excitement and pride across our campus. It’s hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by, and we are energized to finish strong together.

Next week brings two important milestones: Finals Week and Graduation. We are especially excited to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2026. Graduation is a meaningful moment for our entire community, and we invite you to join us in honoring our graduates at Lithia Park. Please see the information below for details on the ceremony—we look forward to celebrating together as we send off our newest alumni.

For our 9th–11th grade students, this is your time to focus and finish the year with purpose. Be sure to get plenty of rest over the weekend and come prepared for an intense week of finals. Your hard work will pay off, and we know you are ready to meet the challenge.

Let’s take this last week to support one another, stay focused, and celebrate all that we’ve achieved this year as a school community.

We are almost to summer break—let’s finish strong, AHS!

Dr. Francisco L. Atanes

A couple important reminders:
Graduation practice is on June 5th, and students need to attend in order to participate in the ceremony.
If your student is decorating their cap, please make sure it’s school appropriate. We’ll check caps at practice.

Also, yearbooks are in and they really turned out well. Thank you to Sarai Lacy and the yearbook students for the time and effort they put into pulling everything together.

Please make sure to check in with your students about their finals, grades, credits, and any remaining details as we head into our last days together.

We’re looking forward to celebrating this class with you.

Cell Phone Policy Cell Phone Policy

Hello Families,

We wanted to send a brief reminder about our school’s cell phone expectations. We’ve seen more phones coming out during the school day, especially during passing periods, lunch, and other unstructured times, and we want to ensure we stay consistent with district policy.

As a reminder, Ashland School District’s updated electronic device policy requires that student cell phones and personal electronic devices remain off and put away from the moment students enter campus until they leave campus. This includes passing periods, breaks, and lunch. Devices may only be used if a staff member gives explicit permission or if an approved exception in the board policy applies. https://policy.osba.org/ashland/J/JFCEB%20D1.PDF

The goal of this policy is simple: more focus, more connection, and fewer distractions. While phones are part of daily life, we also know students learn and engage more fully when they are present with their peers and teachers.

If your student needs a locker to help keep their device stored during the school day, they can come to the main office to pick up a locker agreement form.

Thank you for your support in helping keep our learning environment focused and consistent for all students.

For Diarrhea (3 loose or watery stools in a day OR not able to control bowel movements) students should not come to school until symptoms have improved for 24 hours (no more than two bowel movements more than normal and no longer having accidents) with orders from doctor to school nurse. For vomiting (two or more episodes that are unexplained) students should be symptom free for 24 hours OR with orders from doctor to school nurse. For headache with stiff neck and fever, students should be symptom free OR with orders from doctor to school nurse. Follow fever instructions above - urgent medical care may be needed. For skin rash or open sores, students should be symptom free, which means the rash is gone OR sores are dry or can be completely covered by a bandage OR with orders from doctor to school nurse. If there are red eyes with colored drainage, students should wait until they are symptom free, which means redness and drainage are gone OR with orders from doctor to school nurse. If there is jaundice: new yellow color in eyes or skin, students should return after the school has orders from doctor or local public health authority to school nurse. If student is acting differently without a reason: unusually sleepy, grumpy, or confused, student should return after they are symptom free, which means return to normal behavior OR with orders from doctor to school nurse. If student has a major health event, like an illness lasting 2 or more weeks OR a hospital stay, OR health condition requires more care than school staff can safely provide, student should return after the school has orders from doctor to school nurse AND after measures are in place for the student's safety. AHS College & Career Pathways Information Sessions

AHS College Handbook: Check out the new 2026-27 AHS College Handbook, which includes information on how to find an educational pathway that’s a good fit, opportunities available at community colleges and four-year public/private universities, WUE schools, financial aid/scholarships, and many other useful resources. Hard copies of the updated handbook will be available soon in the College & Career Center.

ACT/SAT Info and Updates: Students applying to four-year colleges that require test scores usually take the ACT and/or SAT in spring of junior year and/or fall of senior year. The Oregon Public Universities no longer require test scores for admissions. Many colleges and universities are test optional. Check individual schools for current guidelines. Students register for the ACT and SAT online.

Upcoming testing dates: ACT ( June 13, July 11), SAT (June 6, August 23). Students who qualify for a fee waiver for the ACT/SAT, should reach out to karyn.barats@ashland.k12.or.us in the AHS Counseling Office for a voucher before registering for either test.

Many of our students do NOT have to pay to take the ACT/SAT, AP tests, and can also receive tuition waivers and scholarships for SOU dual credit courses. To qualify for these benefits this school year, students/families must complete and turn in the Oregon Family Income Survey to the AHS Main Office to demonstrate their eligibility. You can find a link to a fillable PDF of this form at the end of the GOG. Hard copies are also available in the AHS Main Office.

Students who want to learn more about ASPIRE or sign up for a mentor can contact jennifer.marsden@ashland.k12.or.us

Arbiter Sports (formally Family ID) is a secure registration site that provides an easy, user-friendly means of registering for athletics. You will need to create a family profile just once during your student’s 4-year high school athletics participation. Once registered, the system will keep track of your information in your family profile. By saving your information future registrations will be simplified.

Oregon Family Income Survey Oregon Family Income Survey

Below is a brief Family Income Survey we hope you will fill out if you see you qualify

Ashland School District qualifies as a USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) site; this means all students in the Ashland School District have access to a free breakfast and lunch. AHS still wants to know which of our students would traditionally qualify for free and reduced lunch. We use this information to make sure we can direct resources to the students that need it most. The information is completely confidential and for administrative use only. Students who qualify are eligible for reduced fees for school events like our dances as well as reduced fees for AP Tests. Completed forms should be turned into the Main Office to the attention of the Bookkeeper.
