Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that June is already here and another school year is drawing to a close! With all of the snow days, our final day of school will now be Wednesday, June 24. It will be an early release day, with dismissal at 11:00 AM.
I want to take a moment on behalf of our entire faculty and staff to thank you for the amazing Teacher Appreciation Week you hosted for us. We were truly blown away by your generosity. We are so fortunate to partner with such a supportive, caring community of families, and your hard work made our team feel so celebrated.
Looking forward to the fall, the first full day of school for students will be a little bit later this year, on Wednesday, September 2. Please also note that Friday, September 4 will be a half-day to allow for staff professional development.
For the families of our incoming 5th graders, please keep an eye out for details regarding a student-only orientation this August. We will also host a "Meet the Teacher" night for all parents in early September, with more specifics coming in future newsletters.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions as we wrap up the year. Thank you for a wonderful school year, and I wish you all a safe and happy summer!
Sincerely,
Josh Belvis

Request for Moving Boxes
We will be making a few moves this summer, shifting classrooms around to bring Grade 5 and 6 next to each other downstairs, while Grades 7 and 8 and our LBLP program will take over the upstairs hallway. Behind every great school refresh is a lot of packing tape. If you have any large boxes lying around, we would love to take them off your hands! Please drop off any unwanted boxes to Ms. L in the main office over the next two weeks. Thanks for helping our teachers make the move!
Scheduling and Rosters for 26-27:
We want to assure you that a tremendous amount of time and effort goes into creating a schedule that provides the best possible academic experience for all students. Our goal is to ensure every student is placed in classes that support their success throughout the school year. We kindly ask that you refrain from making schedule requests unless there are extreme and documented circumstances. We have full confidence in our dedicated teachers and believe that they will each build strong connections with our students and help them thrive in any class. Thank you for your understanding and partnership.
Dress Code and Walking/Riding Bikes:
As the weather becomes nicer, please remind your children of the dress code and to conduct themselves appropriately at school and on the way home, being respectful of businesses and residences. In regards to dress code, clothing must be worn in such a way as not to reveal undergarments or expose skin normally covered by undergarments. Undergarments may not be worn as outer clothing. You can find the dress code in its entirety on page 16 of the Student Handbook.
I hope everyone has a refreshing and cool summer break!
Spring Concerts
Thank you to all who came to the Band and Chorus Concerts. Thank you, Mrs. Mulcahy, Mrs. Alosa, and the entire music department for putting together such great nights! Everyone did an amazing job!

End of Year Activities
Each grade is planning activities for the last few days of school.
On Tuesday, June 23rd, the 8th grade will have their awards and promotion ceremony at 12:30 PM. Parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony. 8th graders will be dismissed with their parents at the end of the program.
The 8th grade parade will take place on Wednesday, June 24th. The parade will take place at 9:30 am. Parents and students will line up at the old Maquan School parking lot beginning at 9:00 am. Mr. Belvis, Officer Harrington, and Mrs. Pietrasik will be at Maquan at 9:00 to assist in organizing the parade. Feel free to decorate your car, honk your horn and take picture or video as we drive up to and around the middle school. We will be leaving Maquan and heading up Route 58 to HMS promptly at 9:30 am, please see the map with the route around the school. We want everyone to be safe and have fun. Please ensure that no objects are thrown from vehicles. Water guns and similar items are not permitted. Do not linger at the middle school at the end of the parade. We ask that you head home in order for us to facilitate our regular school dismissal and alleviate as much traffic as possible. 8th grade students do not need to report to the school prior to the parade. Attendance will be taken at the old Maquan school. If there are younger siblings that would like to ride with their brother or sister let us know and we will take their attendance at Maquan at the same time. If a parent is not able to participate we would encourage the student to ride with a friend. Here is the parade route:
Pride Month
The arrival of June marks the start of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. With observations and demonstrations having taken place since 1970, June was nationally recognized as Pride Month for the first time in 1999 by President Bill Clinton. In his proclamation, President Clinton reminded the nation that "America's diversity is our greatest strength", and called on citizens to "respect one another, to appreciate our differences, and to recognize the fundamental values that we hold in common". This Pride Month, take the opportunity to learn more about the history of the celebration and the many LGBTQ+ Americans who have made noteworthy contributions to our country and the world.
The Fearsome Pirate Frank
A massive congratulations to the incredibly talented cast and crew of HMS Drama for their spectacular production of The Fearsome Pirate Frank! The students truly did an awesome job bringing this hilarious pirate adventure to life, showcasing immense hard work, creativity, and stage presence. We are also thrilled to report that all three performances were very well attended. Our auditorium was packed! Thank you to everyone who came out to support the arts at HMS—our students absolutely knocked it out of the park!
School Nurse News
IMPORTANT END OF YEAR MEDICATION PICK UP INFORMATION:
Student medication cannot be stored in the health office over the summer (this includes epi pens and inhalers). I am able to send epi pens, inhalers and some OTC medication home with students on the last day of school. If you DO NOT want me to send this home with your child, please send in a note or email stating so and that you will be in to pick it up. Any other prescription medication will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian. Any medication left in the health office after June 24th will be disposed of. As a reminder for next school year, a doctor’s medication order form and a parent/guardian authorization form for school medication administration needs to be submitted at the beginning of each school year. Thank you.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF GRADE 6 STUDENTS:
Per Ma State law, all students entering grade 7, need to be in compliance with the state mandated immunizations. If your child has a religious exemption for immunizations, a written parent letter stating this is required and needs to be renewed with the start of each school year. Please check with your child’s physician to make sure that he/she is up to date with required immunizations. Current physical exams and immunization records need to be sent in to me prior to next school year. You may send in forms now and throughout the summer months. Thank you.
