🌟 Kindergarten Weekly Update 🌟 Kindergarten Weekly Update

Hello Kindergarten Families,

It was great to have a full week of school in kindergarten! The warmer temperatures outside definitely brought out some extra energy in our little learners. Even with the warmer weather, we are still wearing all of our winter gear outside because the playground is quite muddy—and you never know when we might see that white stuff again! This week we began Unit 6 in reading, where we are learning that stories have a message. Students are practicing how to understand those messages by looking closely at the title, characters, and setting of a story. In math, we continue to work on addition by writing our own number sentences and finding different ways to add numbers together. Next week we will begin a new math skill as we start working with larger numbers on the hundreds chart. We also enjoyed a full week of our fun Dr. Seuss centers while reading many of his books and hearing lots of rhyming words. It has been a fun and busy week of learning! 📚✨

Please be sure to check out the attached March for Kindness Food Drive information.

📌 Looking Ahead:

March Food Drive – Participation is optional, but we will be collecting items and having some fun dress-up days to go along with it.

Have a great weekend!!

Math Update 🧮

We continued practicing our addition skills and explored the many ways we can add using tools around us—our hands, manipulatives, ten frames, and number lines. Students are becoming little experts! We will keep working on addition for the next few weeks while also reviewing previously learned math skills. We have also been practicing skip counting by 5s, which has been fun and exciting for the class!

Reading Update 📚

As we transition into Unit 6: Stories Have a Message, students will be introduced to the letter Gg. We will also learn the new sight words jump and one.

We will continue strengthening our short vowel skills by building words, stretching and separating sounds, blending them back together, and creating our own words. Students will also continue practicing nonsense (made-up) words. Even though these words are not real, they show that students truly understand letter sounds and can blend them together to read—an important step in becoming confident and independent readers!
