Attendance Attendance

A New Year's resolution related to school attendance could be to "commit to consistently attending school every day, arriving on time, and minimizing absences throughout the year"; essentially aiming to prioritize being present in class to maximize learning and academic success.

Why this is important:

  • Academic impact:

Studies show a direct correlation between good attendance and better grades, as students miss crucial information when absent.

  • Habit building:

Establishing a routine of regular attendance early on can set a positive foundation for future academic success.

  • Social development:

Being present in class allows for better engagement with peers and teachers, fostering social interaction.

How to achieve this resolution:

  • Create a schedule:

Plan out your day to include enough time for getting ready, commuting, and arriving at school on time.

  • Set reminders:

Utilize alarms or calendar notifications to prompt you to get ready for school.

  • Communicate with teachers:

Inform teachers about any potential absences in advance and actively seek missed work when necessary.

  • Address underlying issues:

If personal issues are causing absences, reach out to school counselors or administrators for support.

November Student of the Month November Student of the Month

Congratulations Senior - Kamryn Skeith on being named Sultan High Schools Turk of the Month for November. Kamryn just finished her high school volleyball career leading the team to state for the first time since 1978. She was a great team leader on and off the court. During games she was often helping the younger players get into position to be able to make plays. She constantly had a smile on her face while she played, even when she or her teammates made mistakes. Kamryn was chosen to play in the All State Volleyball game November 8th. She is also a student representative for the SSD Board. She just got back from Spokane as she was a part of WSSDA. She is always the first to jump in help wherever she is needed and does it with grace and a smile.

Thank you for being a fantastic Turk!

Academic Supports Academic Supports

Homework Club:

Tues/ Thurs Homework Club (2:40 – 4:45) * is an optional opportunity for students who need extra support or time to either stay caught up on classwork/ homework or who need to catch up after being gone. These are students who want to work and are motivated to improve their grades for either sports or other reasons. Homework Club is encouraged, but is a choice, not a requirement.

If a student is being disruptive at Homework Club they can be asked not to return, as it is only for students who will use it appropriately.

Friday School:

Friday School (ERF Fridays 1:00 -3:15)* will be a required opportunity for students who are failing classes due to not completing classwork. Part of building relationships means caring about our students enough to hold them accountable for their choices and providing consequences when they are not meeting expectations. With this goal in mind, we are implementing the required opportunity of Friday School for students who choose not to complete work or need additional help.

Friday school is assigned by teachers. You will hear from the teacher by Wednesday, if they have Friday School. If your student completes the work, the teacher can sign off and your student will not need to attend Friday school.

The goal of Friday School:

  • Improved academic performance by students not meeting expectations.

  • Increased student sense of responsibility for academic success.

  • Improved use of classroom time.

  • Increased communication between school and parents.

Friday School is from 1:10 pm to 3:30 pm on Early Release Fridays.

*Activity buses are available to transport students home afterward.

Only the parent/guardian of a student assigned to Friday School may request a “reschedule” to the next available Friday. Should the student not attend their assigned Friday School for a reason other than an illness, the student will be assigned additional consequences:

  • First Missed Friday School: Re-assign Friday School and 2 days of lunch detention.

  • Second Missed Friday School: Parent meeting, 3 days of lunch detention, and re-assign Friday School.

  • Third Missed Friday School: Parent Meeting, 5 days of lunch detention, and re-assign Friday School.

Please contact the office at #360 793-9860 and ask Laura Breen or Micki Miller if you have any further questions.

Inclement Weather Inclement Weather

What should you do if weather or emergencies change school or bus schedules?

Refer to the Snow Routes or Flood Routes tab for bus route information.

How can I get notified right away?

The District uses the Flash Alert System for Emergency Notifications. Sign up to receive emergency notifications

Flash Alert allows parents, students, staff & community members to receive immediate notification regarding emergency announcements and school closures/delays at the SAME TIME as the radio and television stations. To receive your emergency notification by email or text, register at the link posted above by entering your email and clicking "subscribe."

  • If "School Closed ": all schools are closed. School-related programs and the use of school buildings are canceled.

  • If "two hours late": all schools start two hours late, but end at the regular time. There will be no morning preschool.

  • If "limited bus transportation": all schools are open, but the regular bus routes need altering. These altering events could include snow, ice, flood, power outage, etc. Parents should drop off/pick up their students at their designated pick-up location or directly at the school.
