We were so happy to have so many families participate in our family learning event connected to Black History Month. Check out all the pictures below! Having a spotlight on Black History during February allows us to learn about, celebrate, and honor Black leaders and their achievements. As educators, this month affords us the opportunity to challenge the perspectives of history we may have learned growing up, dig deeper, and create a broader experience for our students.

"When we celebrate Black History Month, we aren’t just celebrating Black history. We are celebrating American history, which belongs to all Americans. By collectively and consciously celebrating Black history, we come together and continue to rewrite the narrative of our diverse nation."

- Tonya Jones-Dandridge

This was the first time we have created a family experience like this and we would love your feedback...What aspects of Black History Month and/or the Family Event did you appreciate? What are some ways we can improve and/or make it more meaningful? Here is a link to a Google Form, we would love to hear from you!

This coming week we will be celebrating Literacy Week! It is an opportunity for us to help inspire a love of reading with all of our students. Literacy allows students to seek out information, explore subjects in-depth, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. It enables students to be agents of their own learning, pursuing topics and interests that can open doors to their future.
