October 4, 2026 - Community Newsletter
Dear MRMS Families and Community Members
Thank you all for coming and taking part in a wonderful Curriculum Night. It is always great to have families in the building and meeting their students' teachers.
Ms. Rice, our newly appointed Assistant Principal, will be sharing information weekly with you in this newsletter just below here.
As you can see in the photos below, MRMS is buzzing with excitement for all of the cool things taking place in the building. Our STEM classes are learning to create and innovate and our athletic teams are in full swing and students have opportunities to excel inside and outside the classroom.
Finally, thank you to our custodians! Friday was Custodian Appreciation Day! MRMS has the best custodial staff around.

Making Waves with Ms Rice
I am so excited to be the new Assistant Principal at Monomoy Regional Middle School. I have been so fortunate to be part of the Monomoy Community for 10 years and am excited to continue in the role of Assistant Principal. Thank you for all of the positive support.
In this section of the newsletter you will find information about attendance, restorative justice practices, and ways to maintain our positive school community.
Over the first few weeks of school we held town hall meetings for each grade. In fifth grade we discussed the importance of being a good friend and how to have healthy friendships. In sixth grade we discussed respect and why it's important to show respect to everyone in our school community. In seventh grade we talked about being a role model and why it's important to be a leader for our students in 5th and 6th grade. We stressed the idea of the ripple effect and how one positive or negative choice we make can ripple through our community. We will continue to hold town hall meetings throughout the year.

Social Emotional Learning Assessments
As noted in our School Handbooks, Monomoy Regional School District is committed to developing a comprehensive program that provides support and services that address the five core competencies of social and emotional learning (SEL). This goal has been developed and supported by members of the school community in alignment with the district's strategic plan. The five core competencies of SEL are: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. In order to gain a better understanding of the needs of our students, assessment tools are used to obtain baseline data regarding the social and emotional competencies of the students in grades 3-12, including the SELIS and SSIS. These questionnaires are administered a few times a school year to collect data and identify trends. Data from student responses are collected and analyzed to assist in developing a strategy for implementing SEL throughout the curriculum as well as analyzing trends throughout the student body and school year. If you would like to opt your child out of participating in these questionnaires, please email Melissa Maguire at mmaguire@monomoy.edu by October 1, or within 30 days of enrollment.
