Afternoon Parents/Guardians,

As can often be the case, Quarter 3 is getting started with a snow day and a two-hour delay. More than likely, by the time the quarter wraps up, we’ll be enjoying the warming trends of spring...and it will be here before we know it!

Please note that in last week's BB, I listed an incorrect email address for Ms. Kidd, who is looking for baby and toddler photos for our 8th grade students. The correct email is ekidd@conval.edu. If you sent it last week, please double check or resend it to the real email!

There are also several upcoming events focused on supporting our 8th grade students as they transition to high school. These include a field trip to ATC at CVHS to explore program options, as well as an informational night on Thursday, 2/19. Please see the details below for more information.

Be sure to keep scrolling and enjoy some snapshots from this week’s activities at GBS!

Thanks again for being valued partners in providing a positive and meaningful educational experience for our GBS students.

Sincerely,

Adam Caragher, Principal ~ GBS

Attention 8th Grade Parents: It’s that time of year! We are collecting baby or toddler photos of our GBS 8th graders for the upcoming 8th grade celebration. Please email an electronic copy or stop by the school and we’ll gladly scan it for you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Kidd at ekidd@conval.edu.

8th Grade Field Trip to CVHS ATC

On Friday February 13th, the 8th grade class will take a field trip to ConVal High School for a tour of the Applied Technology Center (ATC). We will leave GBS at 8:30 am and return by 10:00 am. We will travel by bus and there is no cost for this trip. The link to the permission slip is below:

8th Grade Parent Information Night

There is an information night for 8th grade parents on Thursday, February 19th at 5:30 pm in the Lucy Hurlin Theater at ConVal. Students will have their own info session with the high school counselors at GBS on February 10.

Hello from the ConVal Wellness Committee

Paying Attention to Our Seasonal Mental Health

During winter’s reduced sunlight and colder temperatures, we spend more time indoors, and need to be intentional about supporting positive mental health. A great way to do this is to limit the use of devices such as phones, laptops, gaming systems, etc. We want to increase our exposure to fresh air and natural light whenever possible, and when it is not too uncomfortable to be outside.

Excessive screen time has been linked to increased depression, while the blue light from screens before bed can disrupt sleep patterns. Stepping outside into the crisp, cold air, even for short intervals, can offer important benefits.

Spending time outside during the day helps regulate the body's internal clock and boosts Vitamin D, which is essential for mood regulation. Fresh air increases oxygen levels in the brain, raising serotonin levels—the chemical messenger associated with happiness and well-being. Outdoor physical activity can also reduce stress hormones and release endorphins, alleviating symptoms of anxiety, fatigue, and seasonal depression (SAD). By choosing a walk in the park over indoor screen time, we can support our mental and physical health during the chilly winter season.
