Hello MES Community,

This was an incredibly busy week for MES! We had six 4th grade students who were recognized by the Malibu Optimist Club at an oratorical event called "Kids Speak Out" in which they created speeches about what it means to be optimistic. They competed against students from Our Lady of Malibu and we couldn't be more proud of them! In addition, we had a chance to highlight our students' amazing talent during the Talent Show on Friday! Finally, we wrapped up our night with our 4th and 5th grade music program, where we welcomed Webster students to join! Thank you to our incredible music instructors for a tremendous year of music!

Parents - You should have received a separate Parent Square communication with a link to vote for our School Site Council parent representatives. Voting will remain open through June 9th at 5pm. Please take the time to read the candidate statements and make your vote for TWO candidates that you feel will best represent our parent community!

THANK YOU to our amazing PTA parent leaders and Ms. Rebecca for their work with our Mental Health Friday activities this Spring. What a wonderful gathering with so much information for our families! I appreciate your initiative in bringing this to MES!

Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in a child’s success at school - EVEN IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS! When students are present each day, they build strong routines, stay connected with their classmates, and fully engage in learning. Even a few missed days can lead to gaps in understanding and make it harder for children to feel confident in class. Thank you also for helping your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Your partnership makes such a meaningful difference in their growth and success!

Student Birthday Parties (from the Parent Handbook)

Such observances must be coordinated with the classroom teacher and should occur after lunch or at the end of the day. Food may be distributed at school. Healthier options should be encouraged. Cakes or very sweet treats (Sugar-based foods) are NOT allowed. All-natural popsicles are the ONLY choice for birthday celebrations. Our SMMUSD Food and Nutrition Services Wellness Policy calls for staff to limit student consumption of sugar at school. No nuts, if there is a peanut allergy in the classroom. Party favors are ok to distribute. Birthday invitations for parties away from school may not be distributed unless every student in the class is invited.
