January 9th, 2026 Principal's Message
Hello Blevins Families,
I hope that you had a wonderful Winter Break! We are thrilled to kick off a new semester with our Bruins. The spring semester is an exciting time in which we see academic and emotional growth from our students, while also gearing up for their future. High school registration is just around the corner for 8th grade students, while 6th and 7th grade students will be registering for next year's classes in February. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our counseling team, or anyone in the office, should you have questions.
We are getting ready for Girls' Basketball and Wrestling season. Please encourage your child to try something new in being a part of these athletic programs. Girls' Basketball is for 7th and 8th grade students, but Wrestling is available to all! Contact Ms. Dahl, our athletic secretary, if you have any questions about getting started.
Take a breath after the sprint we've had into the new year. We can't wait to see our Bruins again next week!

Student Chat Changes in Microsoft Teams and Google Chat
As part of our District’s ongoing review of digital tools and software platforms, District IT staff have adjusted student chat features in Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace to better support instructional use and compliance with District expectations. PSD’s Principal Advisory Group came to consensus on this change at their December meeting.
As of Monday, December 22, students will no longer be able to self-initiate direct chats or video conferences in these platforms. Students will continue to have access to use chat and collaboration features within teacher-managed and rostered course spaces in both platforms.
These changes do not impact staff-to-staff communications through MS Teams or Google chats.
What’s changing:
Microsoft Teams Chat will be disabled for all students.
Google Chat and Spaces will be disabled all students.
What remains available:
Messaging within Rostered Teams (teacher managed).
Communication features in Google Classroom including class comments/streams.
Timeline:
The changes began to go live on December 22. Policies are applied district-wide, verified, and services will update automatically as policies and permissions propagate across platforms and devices.
What teachers should do:
Use rostered Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom for student messaging.
Continue to set, model, and communicate expectations to students on where and how to post, share work, and communicate.
A Message From Our Blevins PTO
Happy New Year!
A huge thank you to the parents who helped make our teacher appreciation events before Winter Break such a success. On Tuesday before break, we were able to celebrate our teachers and staff with a Cups Coffee Cart, and it was greatly enjoyed. Then on Thursday, parents contributed to our Cookie Exchange for teachers and staff—thank you for all the delicious treats that were such a hit!
PTO is also excited to support our 6th grade class with a mini-grant to purchase additional books. This will allow students to take home required reading texts, addressing a need that was brought to us by a parent. If you have feedback or ideas that can help make Blevins an even better place, please reach out to PTO or join us at an upcoming meeting.
Next PTO Meeting: January 27, 2026 | 5:30–7:00 PM
