The Drumbeat, PHS's school newspaper, is happy t share that we are now an online publication!
PHS Literary Magazine - Totem
Welcome to our online publication of the Parsippany High School Literature and Art Magazine, Totem. Totem has a rich history at PHS, and we are proud to introduce this website as our first step into the digital age. Totem is more than a collection of art and writing samples presented at the end of the year- it is the experience of creative minds coming together, to leave their creative footprint behind for future REDHAWKS. All art and literature posted on this site are from the students at PHS. This is Totem.

Reminders for Safety and Orderly Operation of PHS
Student and Staff ID Cards
This week we have added an additional level of safety and convenience through the implementation of student and staff identification cards. Please see the student expectations and code of conduct policy for ID violations:
Expectations:
Student IDs and lanyards must be worn around the neck at all times while in the building. This is a safety procedure and must be followed to assure the safety of everyone in the building.
The student name and picture on the ID must not be defaced or destroyed.
During PE and certain labs/experiments/activities, teachers may direct students to remove it. Students must make sure to put it back on when they leave class and are in the hallway.
Each student will receive one ID and lanyard free of charge.
ID Violations
Refusal or forgetting to wear your ID in the building is a violation of the Code of Conduct Policy and will result in appropriate disciplinary consequences under “Failure to Follow Procedures”.
First Offense (lunch detention), Second Offense (two detentions), Third Offense (Saturday Detention)
If an ID or lanyard is lost, a new ID and lanyard must be purchased by the student. While the new ID/lanyard is being produced, students will receive a temporary ID sticker to wear through the main office.
Replacing/Purchasing IDs
- IDs can be purchased in the main office
- ID or Lanyard - $3.00 each
- ID & Lanyard - $5.00
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the safety and orderly operation of our building.

PTA Reflections Contest 2023-2024
The New Jersey PTA Reflections contest is a great way to have your talents displayed and recognized! The theme "I am hopeful because..." is so broad and lends itself to so many composition pieces and works of art that I'm confident most of our students can participate. Please take a moment to review the contest rules and consider participating. You can even create a project to work on throughout the summer! Please click the link below to review the presentation.
Working Papers - New State Process
Please be aware that as of June 1st students will no longer be coming to Guidance to pick them up any more. Students will now need to go on the website: myworkingpapers.nj.gov to register and you will need a code from your employer to complete your papers. See attached flyer!
PHS Student Handbook
Please take a moment to review our Student Handbook as we are committed to student safety and providing our students with an exceptional educational experience.
- The first block of the day starts at 7:40. It is important that our students are sitting in their first class by 7:40. If students would like to have breakfast here at PHS, our doors open at 7:10.
Block 1 begins at 7:40: arriving late (up to 10 minutes) counts as 1/2 an unexcused absence in block 1, arriving late (more than 10 minutes) counts as a FULL unexcused absence in block 1. These add up quickly. Our building opens at 7:10 (breakfast is available).
- Please take a moment to review your child's attendance in Genesis. For a full year course, students are not allowed to exceed 16 unexcused absences. Consistent attendance is the strong indicator of student success in high school. If you have any concerns about your child's attendance, please reach out to Mr. Kelaid or Mr. Bush.
- Student cell phone use is limited to passing time and unit lunch. Students should not be using their cell phones during class time (in or out of the classroom).
- Recording of any individuals while on school campus is a violation of the district policy.
- Our student restrooms are open for use throughout the day. There should be no hanging out in the restrooms. We enforce a limit of 3 students in each restroom at a time. Students should not be entering the restrooms during passing. Student safety is our top priority.
- During school and after school hours, students must be supervised by staff. Students should not be wondering about the building or entering the building if not supervised. After school, students must wait in the cafeteria while waiting to be picked up or take the late bus.
- We will not accept UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub deliveries during the school day. If your child is in a bind, please reach out to the main office and we will make sure they receive lunch.
- Student IDs are mandatory in the building.
- First Offense (lunch detention), Second Offence (2 lunch detentions), Third Offense (Saturday Detention)
- Lost ID/Lanyards can be purchased in the main office (Lanyard and ID $5.00)
- Should students require additional academic assistance, support is provided throughout the day, during lunch and after school. Please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher, guidance counselor, or Administration to help arrange assistance.
As always, if you have any questions or we can be of any assistance, please reach out to us!
