North High Newsletter
September 2026
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
The 2026-27 School Year is off to a good start. We are elated to see students engaged in learning and extra-curricular activities! Be sure to keep up with athletics and activities by following the Omaha North High Calendar at https://www.gobound.com/ne/schools/omahanorth.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Every minute counts and we appreciate your support with getting students to school on time each day. We are working hard to provide high-quality learning experiences to help us reach our Moonshot.
We will have periodic hall sweeps to hold students accountable when they do not show up to class on time, once they are in school. Students caught in a hall sweep will receive an after-school detention.
As a reminder, students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices (cell phones, earbuds, headphones, etc.) during the school day. If these devices are being used during instructional times, they may be confiscated. The times students can use these devices are before and after school, during passing periods and during lunch in either the cafeteria or Viking Center. Thank you for helping us create a positive and engaging learning environment.
We will be reviewing Safety Procedures and conducting safety drills in the coming weeks. If we need to implement any of the Standard Response Protocol, communication will be sent at the end of the day. We reserve real time notification (as an event is happening) for situations where action is required on your part. Please know that we value open communication and will do our best to keep everyone informed.
Please review the Newsletter for additional updates. Thank you for your continued support of the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please contact us at 531-299-2700.
Attendance Matters!

IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Expectations
PLEASE NOTE: All cell phones and earbuds/headphones must be off and away in all instructional areas of the building. This includes classrooms, the library, and anywhere learning is taking place. Students are not allowed to be on their phones when taking a pass from class. Students will be permitted to have their phones out during lunch and passing periods (as needed).
It is crucial that students come to school with charged iPads every day. Students will not be allowed to use their phones for class work.
Thank you for reinforcing this information with your student and partnering with North High.

Funds raised help cover event registration fees, JROTC T-shirts, food for JROTC activities and events, range maintenance items, upgrade our color guard equipment, and other essential program needs. These funds allow our cadets to participate in experiences that build leadership, teamwork, responsibility, confidence, and a commitment to service.

Introducing the Viking Code: One School. One Standard. Every Viking Thriving.
We are excited to introduce our new Viking Code, a schoolwide framework that clearly defines the behaviors that help every student succeed. The Viking Code provides consistent expectations across all settings (classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, buses, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and beyond) so students know what success looks like wherever they are on campus.
Our Viking Code is built around three simple expectations:
- V ā Value Respect
- U ā Uphold Accountability
- P ā Prioritize Engagement
These expectations will be explicitly taught, modeled, practiced, and reinforced throughout the school year. By using the Viking Code in every setting, we are creating a positive, predictable learning environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and behaviorally.
We encourage families to review the Viking Code with their students and use this common language at home as we work together to build a strong Viking community.
Support Our Revamped Viking School Store!
We are excited to announce that our School Store is being revamped to provide even more meaningful incentives and rewards for students who consistently demonstrate the Viking Code. The updated store will offer a variety of items that celebrate positive behavior, encourage student engagement, and reinforce our schoolwide expectations.
To help stock the store, we invite our Viking community to support us by scanning the Amazon Wish List QR code and purchasing an item to be shipped directly to the school. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us recognize students for making positive choices and contributes to a culture where Every Viking is Thriving. Thank you for partnering with us to support positive behavior and student success!
